The legs in the back do not meet up, in fact the best way to imagine it IMO is Imagine an Oval... a rather large Oval of Gray fur that is placed over his thigh. The Gray oval wraps around most of his leg, but does not touch.

 

if you have the disc, you may get a better picture with freeze frame shots.
