I think the need for a under suit depends on your own frame. The main reason I use on is because I use stilts the legs had to be made quite chunky to disguise them which in turn meant building up my upper body to stay in proportion. Hope that makes sense.

I was able to con my dad into making the shirt (a decision he regrets, although I am making it up to him by building him an Ackbar suit) and I did the pants....
