I just wear a dark shirt and dark thin pants under mine. When its cold, like during our annual Christmas parades, I wear several layers of long johns underneath and I get to be warm while the Stormtroopers freeze there asses off and complain about how cold the armor feels against their nipples.

It's my understanding that the padded undersuit for the original trilogy costume was not secured to the fur suit in any way. The suit was tight enough that it didn't move too much and any that did would appear 'realistic' like animal hide sliding over the muscles underneath. I'll be sure to ask Peter about it at DCon this year.

I think the need for a under suit depends on your own frame. The main reason I use on is because I use stilts the legs had to be made quite chunky to disguise...

I was able to con my dad into making the shirt (a decision he regrets, although I am making it up to him by building him an Ackbar suit) and I did the pants....
