In August of 2001 I attended a knitting expo, Stitches Midwest, in
Minneapolis MN. One of the evening activities was a dinner and a
fashion show. We could present to the crowd a garment that we had
hand knit. Sitting next to me was Ruth Nelson. Yes, TBN's mom! It
was so cool. She said she was from Tulsa OK and of course was an
avid handknitter. She asked me if I had seen the movie O Brother
Where Art Thou and yes, I had. I told her I also owned the
soundtrack. She said that was a huge break for him. I told her I
liked her actor son very much. She was knitting a sweater for one of
her grandchildren who lived back east. I think it had a little train
on it. She did get up on stage and model for us a lovely vest that
she had knit. She was a sweet lady and a good dinner companion as I
was there by myself.
