Her Alcoholic Father Was Rarely Home, So Her Mother, Sister Dorothy And Lillian Started Acting To Pay The Bills. Lillian Was 6 Years Old When She First Appeared In Front Of An Audience. After 13 Years Of Acting On The Stage With Her Family, She Met Famed Director D.W. Griffith In 1912. Griffith Immediately Cast Lillian In Her First Film, An Unseen Enemy. Lillian Made 12 Films For Mr. Griffith In 1912 Alone, With Many More To Follow.
It Didn't Take Long For Lillian To Become One Of Hollywood's Top Stars & She Was Able To Pick & Choose The Films She Wanted To Appear In. As The 20's Came To A Close, Sound Motion Pictures Were Replacing Silents, So Lillian Devoted More Time To Stage Productions. She Made No Secret Of The Fact That She Preferred The Artistry Of Silent Films To 'Talkies'. After Filming His Double Life In 1933, Lillian Took A 10 Year Break From The Silver Screen. Lillian Returned In The 40's And Garnered Her First Oscar Nomination For Her Role As Laura Belle McCanles In Duel In The Sun. She Published Her Autobiography In 1969 & Appeared In Many Stage & Screen Productions Until Her Last, The Whales Of August.
Her Career Lasted Over 88 Years & She Is Known To Fans Throught The World As The First Lady Of Film. Lillian Was 99 Years Old When She Passed Away Quietly In Her Sleep On February 27th, 1993. She Is Greatly Missed By Her Legions Of Fans, Friends & Admirers...
