Hello Everybody!

One of our Betteheads has recorded some of his original music (and an
ELO tune,) and will be performing in NYC this month.

Matt is a loyal Bette fan, who has been a member of this club for a
very long time. He has always been a generous patron of NYRP,
donating his time and money to their wonderful endeavors.

What a great talent Matt has, I so wish I could be there to cheer him
on. I know for sure, though, that the venues will be full of happy
people, enjoying his performance.

Here's Matt's myspace page, check him out!

FYI: I have always archived this club, along with all of my emails
and everything Bette. I have quite the database! Anyways, just
thought that I should give credit where credit is due:

I was wonder how far back the term "Bettehead" goes, so I searched.
The first reference that ever appeared was by that Fabulous Philly DJ,
Jimbo, many years ago - before this site existed, I believe!

For those that don't want to send their CC# in the mail and don't
have a cheque, you can just go online and do it at Http://nyrp.org.
There is a comment box on the submission so you can always just say
you're sending it in for Ms M's Birthday. (Remembering of course
that she is not going to personally read the message you send)

Can't wait to get back to NYC one day and see what they've been up
to. Haven't been there since "pre NYRP"

Happy THanksgiving to any one on the US side of the border!

Hello Everybody!

It's that time of year again
- time to wish Bette "Happy Birthday"
and make a donation to NYRP in her honor.

I started the "Happy Birthday Bette" fundraiser 7 or 8 years ago, and
I know some fans still participate, so I wanted to send out a reminder
to everyone!

To participate, just send a birthday card with your donation to:

Happy Birthday Bette!
c/o
New York Restoration Project
254 West 31st Street,
10th Floor
New York, NY 10001

A donation of $35 or more will make you a member of NYRP and get you
on their mailing list for events and y0ou will also receive their
newsletter. If you're really feeling generous, gift someone else with
a membership, too!

When I started this fun fundraiser, we sent amounts of money tied to
her birthday. If one could afford it, I suggested $1 for every year,
($63 this year) or if they couldn't, maybe an amount representing her
birth year ($19.45)

NYRP is always grateful for any amount that one wants to give! There
used to be several fundraisers by fans each year, but I think this is
the only one that survives. Do you remember "Books for Bette"? That
was great fun done by Stella & Jo-Nell. They did a cookbook, then a
travel book, then a birthday book, I think....

That first year, "Happy Birthday Bette" raised over $10,000!!!!!!

I noticed a few years ago that they were making the price of a ticket
for Hulaween match her birthday, so I guess they like the idea!
(Tickets this year ranged from $630 for an individual to $63,000 for
the top price for a table for 10.)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, hope your day is great!

Thanks Jude!

Only 100 bucks a tree, that's a steal!

Not to mention what a night it would have been :)

Just as soon as I hit the "Jackpot" I'm so there. Perhaps we need to

it would be rude not to take in a show or two.. wouldn't it? *grin*

Since it's so quiet in here, figured I'd start posting Ms M news...

"50 CENT and BETTE MIDLER teamed up on Monday (03Nov08) to cut the
ribbon on a new community garden in the rapper's native Queens, New
York.
Midler, a long time Big Apple conservationist, joined the rapper, and
admitted she was a big fan, at the launch of the Foch Boulevard
Community Garden.
Midler reveals her conservation group bought the site but needed a
big name to help renovate the garden - and discovered 50 Cent, real
name Curtis Jackson, was willing to help out.
At the launch, she told reporters, "We looked all over town for a
group that was interested in these sort of things. We found G-Unity,
which is Curtis' foundation. They were interested. This garden is
mainly for kids, and they do a lot of things with kids."
50 Cent adds, "It's exciting. It was an opportunity for me to do
something for the kids in the community.
"This a hell of a opportunity, for me to collaborate with Bette...
We're gonna make it happen." "

Hello, Everybody!

Got this article via my Yahoo Alerts on Bette. You can do it, too -
it's easy!

This is an article on the Huffington Post site, by Andrea Chalupa:

"Bette Midler's Hulaween Ball: A Great Investment"

Last night, at Bette Midler's annual Hulaween Ball in the Waldorf
Astoria, the eco-diva raised $2-3 million for New York's Restoration
Project. Ticket prices were $630 for balcony seats to $63,000 a table
to raise money for an organization that clean-ups and revitalizes
community gardens and underserved parks in NYC.

The evening started off with Ms. Midler, dressed as a bloody chef,
working the room with the evening's MC, comedienne Kathy Griffin--in
an Uncle Sam-like get-up, urging guests to buy trees at $100 a pop for
the City of New York.

It's an amazing feeling to buy a tree; something that's going to last
through many a' economic cycle. It could in fact be the best
investment around. You can buy one too at NYRP's Plant a Tree.

Speaking of the economy, guests included Jimmy Buffett, dressed as
Christopher Walken's SNL character The Continental, the
smoking-jacket-wearing, champagne drinking cosmetics king. Buffett is
set to ride this economic tsunami, considering he's in the market of
escapism and tailgating parties, which should be resilient and up in
this recession.

Also in attendance was disco Foremother Gloria Gaynor whose "I Will
Survive" should be the anthem of this economy and on the playlist of
all the recent layoffs, along with Kelis's Caught Out There.

Other guests included pop rocker Pink, wearing a huge, frothy magenta
wig, Jann Wenner dressed as Jann Wenner, designer Michael Kors sported
a rug-size mane of black, thick luscious hair as Priscilla Presley,
and Suze Orman looked like a bush of money with hundreds of fake
dollar bills glued or taped or whatever on her gold jacket.

A man coyly smiling behind a giant frame dressed as Mona Lisa won the
best costume award. Other notable costumes included a group of dudes
wearing sparkling, shimmering head-pieces modeled after Las Vegas
Casinos, a glittering Marilyn, and of course, a Sarah Palin, or two.
When one Palin walked by my table, I made sure to pull an Alec Baldwin
and tell her: "You're a horrible person." "I know, don't vote for me!"
came the response.

Having gone last year, this year's Hulaween was jam packed, with
dozens of people hanging from the balconies. Cobwebs, spooky trees as
table centerpieces, snakes, and glowing skulls decorated the tables of
the Waldorf's grand ballroom.

The night came to an energetic close with a live performance by Gloria
Estefan and her Miami Sound Machine, all in Goth. Estafan rocked it,
wearing a long black wig with bangs, looking very Elvira. They
performed the hits: "Get on Your Feet", "Y Tu Conga," and "Rhythm Is
Gonna Get You" with Midler and Griffin dancing and getting some mic
action on stage.

After the performance, Midler ecstatically thanked everyone for coming
out, acknowledging that these are "tough, tough, tough, tough times."

When that's the case, it's always nice to get transported to Miami
through the Sound Machine and do a little greening for New York.

Please be careful when shopping on EBAY.

I was snooping through the various auctions today and again saw
people taking fans for a ride.

For example:

Ms M playing cards, sealed, are not 28.00 US, they cost only 8
dollars in the store in Caesars, they aren't rare or out of print....

As well ANYTIME something says out of print, CHECK before you bid!
sites like Amazon.com, amazon.ca or whichever country you're in are
great places to try first to verify the movie/ book or CD is in fact
out of Print.

Anything that says "autographed" or "Signed" but says reprint,
remember it's basically a photocopy of a signature, it's not worth
shelling out extra money just because it has a copy of Ms M's
signature...

please don't let yourself be ripped off. Besides, you pay all that
money to someone on Ebay, when it's still in print, the artist
doesn't get that money :)

Anyway, just wanted to post a warning. I hate seeing people get
taken advantage of.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and remembered to watch Hocus
Pocus last night ;)

Jim -

Please don't post your personal info on this site, that's just not a
good thing to do. This is a public site and there are many
unscrupulous people on the net, don't cha know? We've had to deal
with them many times here..

Nice story, and if you want to try to contact Bette, you can contact
her people, which I think you should try to do yourself.

Look up these folks:

Bette Midler is represented by:

Emily Lawi - OrganicWorks Marketing
Roberta Greene - Phoenix Communications
Ken Sunshine - Ken Sunshine Consultants

Alternately, you could try to send a letter to the box office for "The
Coliseum" at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. I know they will forward
it on to her.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out, ok?

Wonder if anyone can help me get a "human interest" message to Bette.

My daughter is due to have our first grand-daughter any day (her due

If Bette Midler would call her, or email her, it would be just too much!

Here is the story
================
An Untold Story….

Bette Midler's "Bet" is now starting The Second Generation.
I thought she might like to know about an upcoming birth of her ALMOST
namesake .... As she'll certainly get a smile out of it.

If you can get this note to Bette, you'll make her day!
=========================================
The lovely Miss M will remember where she was during the evening of the
Blizzard of '78. I know, I was with her.

We made a "bet". And now my daughter is expecting a baby on October
24th, although her name is not Bette, nor will her daughter's be.

Here is the story…

Both Bette and I were caught in a blizzard on a Thursday night during
the last week in January, 1978.

I recognized Bette from across the room in the motel bar/restaurant and
approached her to ask if she was going to sing for the 25 of us in the
bar of the motel. To say her expression in reply was less than warm
and fuzzy would have been a very kind way of describing it <grin>.
Yes, we do know Bette!

I expressed regret that her concert at the Front Row was snowed out,
but stated we all were dealing with frustration and I had a wife who
was 9 months pregnant and due anytime, but I was not treating people
like...[explicative deleted].

Note: The highways were closed - preventing me from getting from
Cleveland where we were snowed in together to Cincinnati, my home.

Bette asked me if that was true. I said, "Yes".
She said, "I'll make you a bet. Name your daughter Bette, and I'll
sing."

Being the salesman that I was/am I responded.... "If my wife has a girl
(first requirement), tonight (second requirement), I'll name her Bette."

She said, "Fair Enough!"

And true to her word, Bette [and her Oreos] put on a full concert for
us stranded souls in the bar. What a wonderful gesture!

Bette, I, and the organ player stayed up until 3:00 am reminiscing
about some of the old clubs we both played in as I was a struggling
sax player during those years, whose band in the late 60's /early 70's
was just trying to get a break.

I always remembered that evening fondly and certainly got to see a
different Bette than the one who was gruff to a stranger approaching
her. She actually was a very warm, caring, and interesting person.

Of course, as her fame grew, I repeated this story to a number of folks
over the years.

Oh, my daughter's name….you ask?
Well, my wife did not deliver that night. She actually had to be
induced and delivered a baby girl on February 3, 1978. We named her
Jayme Susan Bannon. The "bet" was off but my memory of our wager made
me smile many times over the years.

FAST FORWARD…. It is now 1996, and Bette is scheduled to appear as
Blossom Music Center in Akron, where we were living at the time. I
asked my daughter, Jayme, to try to contact Bette or her agent - and
introduce herself, telling the "Story".

My one disappointment in my daughter who has been such a strong woman -
independent and accomplished - was that she did not take action on my
suggestion. I told her, Bette wouldn't remember me from Adam, but she
certainly would remember that night, and if reminded might possibly
remember the "Bet". It would be neat if Jayme said, "I am the baby
girl that you were betting on 18 years ago!"

Of course, I thought this might give Jayme the chance to speak briefly
with Bette and possibly even get backstage for a moment so they could
laugh together about the crazy way things turn out in life. But, alas,
Jayme never made the attempt to contact Bette.

I won't bore you with the tremendous accomplishments Jayme has made in
her 30 years. She is a triathelete, won a full ride scholarship to
Northeastern, and went through 18 years of school with all A's except
for a single "B". She is now a Physical Therapist living in Golden
Colorado and she and her husband are expecting a baby girl on October
24th. Although they will probably not name their baby Bette, I am once
again remembering Bette's kindness at this moment, as I listen to her
music - and so thought I would just make the effort to try to get this
THANK YOU and THINKING OF YOU note off to her. I could not find an
email address, but did find some fax numbers that may work.

If Bette reads this, I am sure she will smile. Then, it will make my
day.

If Bette wants to contact Jayme, that would actually BLOW JAYME AWAY,
so here is Jayme's contact information:

I am so glad you all had fun in Vegas.  Like I mentioned to you
previously, I wish I could have gone.  I will certainly let you
know when I go again.

And the trip was extra special because it was shared by good
friends!

I so enjoyed seeing everyone, although I wish I had more time with

you all. Having celebrations amidst the shows was fun (a 30th

birthday, a 20 anniversary. )

And wasn't it nice that both times I saw the fountains at the Bellagio

go off, it was to songs Bette has done!!!!!

CC, we can't let another 6 years go by, and I can't believe it's been

3 years since I saw Jeff or Heather - much too long to be deprived of

the presence of true and loyal friends - and some of my favorite

Betteheads.

Hugs -

Jude

Hey.. it's been a while ok a long while.. but I'm back.... to stick
my head on the boards....

Last weekend I spent in the fabulous city of Vegas with some AMAZING
Friends and fellow Bette heads... I was lucky enough to be in 5th row
for Friday night. She was so amazing, I ended up going Sat and
Sunday night too.

The show is slightly different each night, mostly in the commentary,
depending on what's she's thinking. The most dissappointing part of
the show is that it's only an hour and a half, though she jam packs
alot into it.

I have to agree with Jude that it's good being slightly farther back
to see the whole stage, there's alot going on that I missed on Friday
night because I was focussed only on Bette, however, being that close
just once was so worth it too. So seeing the whole stage is a good
thing, however sitting with close friends and fellow betteheads is
even better!

Anyway, I won't give away the show, but for those of you that haven't
been sure whether you should go or not.. DO IT. You won't regret it
AND rather than gamble you can spend your $$ in the BETTE STORE, like
I did.

Take care... and make sure you see the PEOPLE's DIVA in Vegas......

And I was one of the lucky ones to see this divine show! Bette truly
rocked the world of everyone sitting in the her very enthusiastic
audience. She was DIVINE!!! I loved seeing Bette's spectacular Vegas
show, too, but it was so good to see her in a smaller venue, as it
always has been!

Midler, famous faces welcome arrival of new Horseshoe Casino property

BY PHILIP POTEMPA

HAMMOND | Las Vegas legend Bette Midler's first words on stage Friday
night at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond: "It's great to be in da region."

Emerging on stage 30 minutes fashionably late, Midler greeted
audiences with her trademark ear to ear smile and "Hammond, you look
divine."

Midler's performance officially opened The Venue, the new theater
space at Horseshoe and the shining jewel of the $500 million new
vessel and gaming entertainment space, which was showcased during an
elaborate gala opening to kick off the weekend.

"It's great to be at the Horseshoe, Hammond's premier floatation
device," Midler said, following her opening number, "Kiss My Brass."

In addition to the fans lucky enough to secure one of the 2,000
available seats, Midler's show also was watched by an array of famous
faces, including "American Pie" actress Tara Reid, who sipped on a
Diet Coke and vodka during the concert, and actor Matthew Modine, who
was eager to see "the space that Jack Binion built."

Modine just completed a new film "Sex & Sin City" to air next month on
cable's Lifetime Movie Network, which features him portraying Jack's
brother Ted Binion.

"The Binion family really is everything that represents gambling and
Las Vegas, and look around you, this place proves it," Modine said.
"Marcia Gay Harden plays the Binion brothers' sister and it's a great
story of what can happen to a family with too much money."

Horseshoe Vice President Rick Mazer, who oversaw the entire
renovation, including the design, said money and opulence served as
the primary theme for the new space.

"After helping select every piece of molding and everything from
fabric and carpet swatches, it's great to walk through a dream space
that compares to nothing else anywhere in the Midwest."

Someone still getting used to the all the marble steps and plush
carpet in the new space was Rachel Northway, a model from Chicago who
spent Friday evening walking in the shoes of a Las Vegas showgirl,
including a towering feather headdress.

"It's all about balance and lots of bead all in the right places," she
said.

"I have to be careful. This Hammond turned into Las Vegas, anything
can happen."
