I did go to the Academy Web site, and I posted a complaint about the recent
awards show.
Besides that, I mentioned that a few years ago, Mako was excluded from the
memorial
section.
I know Gabe's birthday is coming up (around tax time).
Have a good day, everyone.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has a contact page here:
http://www.oscars.org/contact/general.html
Here's the message I'm sending them:
I can't say how disappointed I was by the memorial section this year.
The pictures were hard to see and harder to read the names. The camera
work showing them missed time and time again. And the lack of mention
of the passing of the marvelous actor Kim Chan was a terrible
oversight on your part. It was a great disservice to the fans and
showed very little regard for the fine actors we lost in the past year
and their families. They deserved better.
It really was awful!! You could hardly see some of the pictures...the very first
one, some actress I didn't know, they didn't even have a camera close-up of that
one! And they ran shots of some of the other ones from various lengths away. The
only one they did justice to was Paul Newman. I was shocked that they flipped
past Charlton Heston so fast, but I guess him becoming head of the NRA for a
while made them turn on him.
And they didn't show nearly as many people as those who died during the year, as
Kim's non-inclusion shows. If they wanted to save time, they should have cut out
some of those song-and-dance routines!!! That way they could have honored those
who passed a lot better.

The memorial section was horribly done, hard to see the pictures and
our beloved Kim was not shown. It's a terrible oversight on their
part. If you have an email for the Academy, I'll be happy to give them
a piece of my mind.

Thank you, Delphia. OPH also informed me that Kim was not included. Someone in
California who met Kim many years ago told me that a few years ago, the Oscars
failed to
include Mako in the memorial section. I do not have an e-mail for the Academy,
but just
this afternoon, I was thinking that is something I should try to research.
I just want to tell all of you that Kim was very grateful and proud to have a
fan club. He
often approached complete strangers and attempted to recruit them.
Kim was a very happy person.

After looking at the slide show of celebrities who have passed on this
year on the MSNBC web site, I composed and sent the following email to
them:
I was very sorry to see that you did not include a picture to note the
passing of actor Kim Chan in your celebrity slide show. Kim was a
marvelous actor and did a great deal to help encourage young actors
and filmmakers, especially Asians, promoting diversity in the film
industry both onscreen and off. He worked with major actors like Mel
Gibson, Robert DeNiro and David Carradine, commanding his place on the
screen without upstaging them. He was a gifted actor and a kind and
generous man who is very much missed by his family and fans. I hope
you will consider adding his marvelous face to the slide show.
Sincerely,
Amy Murrell-Haunold
I hope everyone will join me in encouraging MSNBC to correct this
oversight. And if Kim does not get his deserved recognition in the
memorial presentation at the Oscars, I will be very disappointed.
delphia
And for those who may not be celebrating this upcoming holiday, greetings to
you, too.
Kim was always very grateful to have this club. He approached complete strangers
on
airplanes, at parties, etc., just to inform them about www.templelooters.com.

I think it would be a wonderful idea! Our family has know Kim for
many, many years. My mother and he first met about 60 years ago and
have continued their friendship all this time. I had a picture of him
holding my first born 33 years ago when she was just 2 weeks old. The
last time he came to visit was about 5 years ago and it was like he had
not changed in all the years since him and mom first met. He loved to
laugh and boy did he like to show off in the kitchen. When he came to
visit he always took over the kitchen: He'd say, "Carol, you don't
know how to do this - let me show you!" He will be so missed
It is October 27th and we just found out about Kim's death. My
mother has known Kim for over 60 years and at one time they even
thought about getting married. We have not been able to talk to him
since he moved into the retirement home and are quite saddened about
his death. Could someone please give us more information: where,
when, how, was there a funeral or memorial. I understand there is
going to be something on November 30th. We live in Georgia and don't
know if we could get there but would love to be able to write either
Michael or Judy if anyone has their address or at least an e-mail
address.
My mother's name is Rosemary Smith Harris-Mallinson and I am Carol
Henderson. If you could please write us back we would truly
appreciate it.
Thank you!
Carol Henderson

Dear Judith
I was deeply saddened to hear of Kim's passing. I first worked with him in 1981
on THE
KING OF COMEDY and then again in 1997 on KUNDUN. Alas, too few times. Not only
was
he a brave and excellent actor, but also a wonderful person.
Over the years so many people from all walks of life talked to me about his
performances
with fondness. He was always in our thoughts, and all of us here talked of him
as though
he were one of the family.
He is much loved, and will be missed.
Sincerely,
Martin Scorsese
Oh, I am so sorry. I meant to tell you that the memorial will take place Sunday,
November
30th, 2008.
I have an abscessed tooth and have been very heavily medicated (antibiotics and
painkillers).
Please excuse my mistake.
We know that you will be there in spirit if not in flesh.
