Re: [The Low Rent Kim Chan Fan Club] Marina Carradine's book

Hi Everyone,

I met both David and Marina at the FuFest--I think it was in 1998. I initially
met them both at the Friday evening reception. I was with a friend, and trying
to be calm and think of something to say to them, when David became very annoyed
with his name tag. He brusquely pulled it off and handed it to Marina. She
smiled and asked me graciously, "Would you like this?" and offered it to me.
Needless to say, I was stunned. I managed to not-quite-grab it out of her hand
at lightening speed. I maintained a bit of dignity and let her hand it to me,
and I even remembered to thank her. David watched, amused as I tried to hide my
hyperventilating. Later in the convention he autographed the name tag. I still
have it.

I also had lunch at David and Marina's table. This came about by the absolute
kindness and selflessness of KFTLC fans there. There was a raffle to see who
would sit at their table. I didn't win, but the lady that won both tickets asked
a friend to go. The friend thought of me, and knowing I was a big fan,
thoughtfully let me have her place at the table. David and Marina were a little
late to the lunch, but we didn't mind. I don't remember many details of the
lunch. We all asked David questions and he answered us all, was friendly and
charming.

To this day, I'm grateful for this experience, and it is a wonderful memory. My
most vivid impression of David during that weekend is that at times he was very
calm and a little shy - but - and this is a big but - when he would be 'on' he
was amazing - charismatic, funny, magnetic, entertaining - nothing less than a
true star.

I have no idea if this is the kind of story she wants or not. There's not much
here, and I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what he said. To be honest I was
just too nervous to remember, even at the time. I had my picture taken with him
and I remember he had his hand on my back - so what does that say?

I remember other things he did during the FuFest, but they weren't actually
personal experiences.

Well that's about it, unless I remember something else I forgot.

Liz

Marina is in the process of writing a book about David. She is asking if anyone
has any personal anecdotes, etc., to relate.

You are welcome to post your stories about David here.

Thank you very much.

Wow, too bad we lost our most fanatic DC fan last year, Alicia. She went to every convention he did, and took every class that he gave. She'd probably have had...
