Decca/UMG Soundtracks

(New York, NY January 29,
2002) – Will Smith, Jon Voight and Jamie Foxx star in
the critically acclaimed film, ALI, directed by
Michael Mann. Taking you behind Ali’s seismic
accomplishments and into the heart and life of the boxer, this
film explores the legend and, more importantly, the
man. On February 12, 2002 Decca will release the
Original Soundtrack II – the perfect companion to the
original soundtrack available on Interscope Records. The
ALI score album includes original music composed by
Lisa Gerrard and Pieter Bourke, plus tracks by Salif
Keita, Soul Clan, Mighty Joe Young and
more.

Working side by side is nothing new for Lisa Gerrard and
Pieter Bourke. The pair first collaborated on Gerrard’s
1995 solo album, The Mirror Pool. While Lisa Gerrard’s
name is fairly new to the world of film music, it’s
not to fans of contemporary world music. As half of
the Australian duo Dead Can Dance, Gerrard and
collaborator Brendan Perry forged a unique sound that crossed
the traditions of neo-classical choral, gothic and
world music. In 1996, Pieter Bourke went on tour with
Dead Can Dance. Since then, Gerrard and Bourke
developed a full-fledged musical partnership, working
together on numerous projects including their score to The
Insider, for which they received a Golden Globe
nomination. Most recently, they won a Golden Globe for their
work on Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, which also involved
the renowned composer Hans Zimmer.

Ali
Original Soundtrack II is a rare combination of powerful
score and world music flavored tracks, comprised of
innovative artists including Salif Keita, Soul Clan, and
Mighty Joe Young. Mighty Joe Young's "As The Years Go
Passing By" is just one of the haunting selections that
capture the essence of Ali's struggle as a young African
American man, a father, a husband, and a world-renowned
boxer. Complimenting the film's foray into the boxer's
unforgettable trip to Africa -- where he and George Forman
battled for the heavyweight championship -- is Salif
Keata's soulful African stylings. Rounding out the
eclectic disc is Soul Clan's track "That's How It Feels,"
a song that encapsulates the spirit a man many
consider a hero and a role model.

Fresh off its
smash opening at the box office, ALI was nominated for
three Golden Globes including, Best Original Score
(Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke). Also nominated were
Will Smith (Best Actor) and Jon Voight (Best
Supporting Actor). With the Oscar race heating up, many
critics are predicting more nominations to follow for
this memorable look at a man so many
adore.

###
Contact: Beth Krakower
CineMedia Promotions
