Let me start off with saying we are a non-profit Christian
organization, thus we are definately not trying to run off with your
money. The reason it is called a year long non-residency program,
because we work with you for a year developing a faith oriented
script. By the end of the year you will have a good quality script
which will be shown at our annual Showcase and Symposium, not only
that but you'll retain the right to your script. You are flown in
several times for "labs". At these labs you will be working with
industry professionals such as Jack Gilbert. Our head guys are Bryan
Coley and Brent Sweitzer. Bryan graduated with a BFA from NYU, and
worked at Turner Broadcasting until he started Art Within. Bryan is
an accomplished playwright, and two of his plays The Disease
Vignettes and Our Cybertown were Art Within's first productions. In
2001 he was nominated for Atlanta's Abby awards for Best Arts
Professional. Brent graduated from UGA in Journalism with a
concentration in TV and film. He has worked for TBS, Turner Classic
Movies, and Turner South. Act One has also been a huge help with the
program. Recently Bryan flew out to LA and made even stronger
connections with the industry. We are now working with Lions Gate;
and he strengthened already strong connections with CBS, David
McFadzean, Michele Suh of Hollywood Connect among others, this link

The $30 application fee goes to pay expenses such as advertising and
paying judges for their time reading through all the scripts that are
sent in. The figure of $40,000 comes from a combination of a $10,000
stipend, training, flights, accomodations, cost of putting on staged
screenplay readings, etc.
