I've been trying to think of something for this for a few days
now...and I've got nothing.
My only (shitty) advice would be to watch as many movies as you can
that deal with the subject; I think 2001 has a very interesting take
on it. Also the upcoming THE FOUNTAIN deals with this issue as well -
maybe not so much as keeping oneself alive via techonology, but similarly.
Another option might be to watch as many films as possible to see how
they deal with the afterlife.
One article I read seems to suggest something like you're saying -
that in an unlimited future we could all "survive" in consciousness in
a computer and, in effect, be downloaded into anything we wanted. How
about someone that's just constantly downloading their conscious into
various objects until the end of the world? That might be worth
examining.
