I know that Michael Mahonen left the show to do other things. I am
wondering if he meant not to come back, at first, and that is why they
killed off Gus. Was Felicity really supposed to marry Harmon, I mean
Stuart, or did they know the entire time that they were going to bring
Gus back blind, at the end. Does anyone know because I always felt that
this entire storyline, though much beloved and well-done, was a little
bit soap opera-y and maybe Michael decided to return at the end?

The answer is ...


When I left the show, I was not anticipating that I would return to the
show at all. I was not against the idea of returning, it's just that it
never entered my mind. I did not at all anticipate coming back.

As for story lines being known in advance, it was not known how long the
series would run and stories lines were never decided beyond
one season at a time.

So, I returned for "The Return of Gus Pike" as well as two episodes at
the end of the series, but that was not at all known in advance.
