I just wanted to take a moment and say hi to everyone.
My first experience with the exorcist was back in the 1970's when it was first
released. I was on a date with an old boyfriend and actually it was a first date
though I knew him well from school. I was somewhat familiar with the subject
material having grown up with a fascination for SF,
fantasy and horror books and movies.
I enjoyed the movie immensely though I don't know how enjoyable it was to watch
back then. My boyfriend on the other hand despised this movie but he only
admitted it to me a few years later. All I can remember was sitting beside him
embarrassed because of his very verbal reactions to the movie. But I must say,
he wasn't the only one. At the time there was alot of hype in the press
regarding audience reactions, eg. fainting, vomiting etc.
I never saw any of that but I do remember several people leaving the theatre
during the movie.
I think the fact that I was female and obviously enjoying the movie kept my
boyfriend rooted to his seat but he would have walked out if I hadn't been
there.Being a good catholic boy, I think the movie bothered him on a deeper
level. I also was raised catholic but am more liberal in my views.
Since then, I've seen it several times on TV, and on video.
The opening scene still gives me goosebumps.
