Dear Lar (?), you are not alone in your misgivings re: Renny Harlin and THE
EXORCIST 4. Check out the film's message board on aint-it- cool-news.com. This
whole development sucks, and is proof positive that the boneheaded Junior Execs
at Warners (and Hollywood in general) don't jack-shit about what cinematic
storytelling is all about. The original EXORCIST (my favorite film of all time,
by the way) was that rarity of rarities -- a film that does not need a sequel.
The first film said it all, and did so brilliantly. Any effort to continue,
expand upon or "franchise" the story can only result(and has only resulted) in
dismal failure (as the above mentioned boneheads will no doubt discover when
their new film flops like a beached whale). Perhaps it's all part of what
Friedkin called "The Exorcist Curse" (Speaking of Friedkin, I read an interview
with him on the internet recently in which he stated he would sooner jump off
the top of a building than do a sequel -- of any movie! I will try to re-find
the interview and e-mail it to you.)
Anyway, Happy Halloween everybody!
