I thought I'd share some excerpts from a review of the movie Dark Blue
with the group.
...Eldon's [Kurt Russell] SIS boss Jack Van Meter (a powerful Brendan
Gleeson, whose performance is a marvel of cunning, menace, and
paternalism) is thick in the dirt...
...I marvel at how Gleeson makes his Van Meter a whole history of easy
corruption packed into one hearty, influential backroom power broker...
--Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly
I noticed Brendan uses his gift of the "powder keg" moment brilliantly
in this movie. At one point Kurt Russell seems almost like a small
child sitting in the Principal's Office. He is quite seriously raked
over the coals by Van Meter. In my opinion, Russell is an often
underestimated actor himself.
Kurt Russell is actually 3 years older than Brendan Gleeson, so they
made Brendan up to look much older. Don't be shocked by how much he's
changed for the role.
Dark Blue is available on a Region 1 DVD.
