Re: [terrencemalick] New World Score

I think we're selling Horner a little short. He has
talent, it's just that lately his work has become less
than original. It must be tough to be original on
your zillionth score when everyone in Hollywood wants
you to copy what someone else did or what you did
last. "Do it like you did with Titanic." "Huh?"
"You know." "Oh. Well, you're the boss."

Let's not forget that Horner, given the opportunity
and inspiration, can compose such great scores as the
ones he did for ALIENS (used endlessly for action film
trailers for years after and now used endlessly for
spoofs of action film trailers) or the SNEAKERS, my
personal favorite Horner score. He's no Morricone,
though!

Best,
Bill

"Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public
and have no self."
– Cyril Connolly

"In the light of a truly freed mind no prejudice can disguise itself as zeal, no
bullying can masquerade as leadership, no pettiness can pose as importance. The
freed mind will never confuse a sentimentality with a true emotion, an act of
violence with an act of heroism, a slogan with a cause. Men and women with
freed minds may often be mistaken, but they are seldom fooled. They may be
influenced, but they can't be intimidated.
They may be perplexed, but they will never be lost."

Bilge, You do bring up a good point. Zimmer's TTRL score is unlike any of his others, come to think of it - maybe Horner's will be, too. I just hated The...
