I got sideways today...managed to get my mom to get it for me..she knows im having depression issues..so she knows movies make me happy..I think thats why..feel bad for that sorta.
I got in the mail today The Hawk is Dying..so far so good..looking forward to listening to the audio commentary with him. Wasn't thrilled with the audio commentary on American Splendor..he couldnt get a word in edgewise!

Yeah, Johnny Boy is a tad on the emotional side, with a bit of an ego problem as well. Great fun to play that sort of character, and nobody could do this better than PG. : )

very well put, she does seem to bring him back to earth..he has a habit of letting his emotions taking him over. I will give it to Tom Hanks..hes excellent.

Yes, the scenes between the two of them are absolutely wonderful - the way she's constantly bringing him back to reality, when he gets off on one of his (many!) tangents. Those scenes ring particularly true, although of course the entire show is 100% believable. Feels like you're there. Brilliantly written, directed and acted, across the board.
Excellent list, your favorites! Paul is in good company there.

Ahh awesome. I had my other brother do my taxes...not so awesome ...owe quite a bit boohiss.
Older...im the baby of the family..weee..
I agree it is getting much more intense, I ecspecially liked the scene with Charles, where Charles tore into him. I do wonder if thats why Charles was a ne'er do well. Cause he felt shafted somehow in the parental department.
I love all the scenes with Abigail and him...Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti have such amazing chemistry....from the one other movie they were costaring in as husband and wife you really didnt see any love between them..beyond her loving him in The Nanny Diaries...this one its just awesome.
I have only a few fav actors...I have quite a few I admire..but favs are: obviously PG....Fredric March...David Morse..Colin Firth and Jeremy Northam. I also like David Duchovny quite a bit :)

Hey, Melli -
I will email you in a few days about your chart ~ have to do taxes so it'll probably be later in the week.
August 17, your brother! Older or younger?
Here's the link to my review at imdb of John Adams: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472027/usercomments-5 which I posted the day after the first two installments ran. From there you can access my Rogue-32 reviews and read all the ones I've done of Paul's movies. Or you can read them here, if you go through my past messages; I've posted most of them in their entirety.
Actually, I'm launching my own film review site in a fewweeks - Roguesreviews dot com, very excited about that. : )
The episode last night (of John Adams) - very intense, huh? And it gets MORE intense, judging from the previews of next week's, when he's President. I'll be sorry when this s
eries is over, needless to say. Wanted to mention that I agree about David Morse - he's the perfect George Washington, they really got the casting right on this show, across the board.

I could email you separately about your chart if you're interested ~ just let me know which email to use.

So you're a Gemini too, excellent! I'm a Leo with the moon in Gemini, which makes me very simpatico with that sign as well. It's interesting that he's been in so many films with birds in the title -- very attractive to the Mercury-ruled quicksilver Gemini (and he's a double Gemini, remember, so there's actually FOUR of him).
Also wanted to ask: have you seen The Illusionist? He was stunning in that movie as well - great accent, believable throughout.

Hey, Melli -
Past Midnight ~ that was a long time ago, not even sure I've caught that one. I will have to check it out now. I remember how I would see him in all those films, all those character roles he used to do, and I would always have the same reaction: "Who IS that guy?!" It was after Private Parts, when he RULED as Pig Vomit, that I made sure I remembered his name, and I started seeing everything he was in, before and after that movie.
I know what you mean about Private Ryan, it was very traumatizing, the reality of that movie.
So you haven't seen Big Fat Liar, or Fred Claus (in its entirety)? You are in for 2 very special treats, he's off-the-hook hilarious as Wolfie in BFL, and I wrote in my review of Fred Claus (here's the link: http://www.imdb.com/title/ tt0486583/usercomments-31) that his is the best portrayal of Santa I've ever seen in a movi
e.
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly - he and Linney have the most extraordinary chemistry in John Adams. Both air signs - she's an Aquarius and Paul's a double Gemini (sun & moon both in Gemini).

Oh when I find a new actor I netflix it quick..and he has almost all his movies on netflix..I think I got next in cue Past Midnight, cause I heard he was good in it(even though apparently not a good flick).
Yes even in the bits I have seen of Fred Claus he showed his acting abilities..hes always good in the most highly praised movies to the not so great ones.
I really forgot how much he had been in that I actually saw.
The whole cast is amazing in John Adams...all really great actors, was so happy to see Tom Hollander, albiet a very small roll..in it! Loved the water eyes and not exactly looking at John. Also am quite pleased to see David Morse, another VERY strong actor in it(hes one of my favs). And the chemistry between Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti is amazing, they are working well off each other.
I plan on seeing Shoot em up soon.....want to resee Saving Private Ryan only for his scene...after his I am turning it off...that movie traumatized me the first time I saw it with a certain scene and I havent been able to watch it since, sad bit is it is such a great movie...but its so realistic that it makes it hard for me to watch. Like I said I have all his films cued(even the ones I have seen) in order of what folks have said I should see first. Weeee...as soon as I get back to work I will buy some more of his movies. :)

Hey, Melissa -
Yes, welcome to the group! Very pleased that you're actually posting - hardly anyone does, here. John Adams, truly an incredible characterization, surely gonna win Emmys for him, Laura Linney, the show itself, the director, and hopefully Tom Wilkinson, who is also outstanding as Ben Franklin. The show is incredible, isn't it? Makes you feel like you're there, participating in our country's freedom.
Duets - yes, he totally shined in that film, he was the only character I really cared about - he has that quality, to make you give a @#@( about whomever he's portraying. Have you seen Big Fat Liar? The other thing I love about him is how he's not afraid to come off as likeable - he's always had the balls to just commit a hundred percent to anything he's cast in and take it to a completely different level. Also recommend Shoot 'Em Up, if you haven't seen it already.

Lady in the Water - that scene where he

New to the fandom of PG....have seen him in quite a few things prior, but really got me hooked is the miniseries John Adams.
I am now starting to reaquaint myself with some of the movies hes been in(alot I have seen thankfully) and I am really enjoying it. He and Andre Braugher were two of the best things about Duets. Loved him in American Splendor and Sideways. Lady in the water made me cry. I remember liking him from The Negotiator. This is fun :)
Who's been watching? The first two episodes
last night were absolutely INCREDIBLE. I've
reviewed what I've seen so far - posting it
below:
I have to preface this by saying I'm not
(nor have I ever been) a big fan of history
or social studies; these were my least favorite
subjects in school, mainly because they were
presented in such a boring, uninvolving manner.
I've never been big on historical drama movies
either, but if you read my reviews at all, you
know I love Paul Giamatti, and yesterday night
I was mentally thanking the man repeatedly
because if it weren't for him I most likely
would not have been watching the first two
episodes of what is shaping up to be the
TV mini series of the decade, John Adams.
Not since Iron Jawed Angels have I seen a
show based on historical events that is this
inspired, moving, and both emotionally and
intellectually riveting - it felt like I was
taking a trip through history in a time
capsule, genuinely being there in those
early colonial days, when the idea of
independence from Great Britain was
controversial, revolutionary and shrouded
in fear. But the core of the series is not
political - it's the story of John and
Abigail (I'm on a first-name basis with
them now) and how they stayed together,
raised a family and survived during this
most trying time in a young country's history.
Giamatti and Linney bring extraordinary passion
and complete believability to their roles,
but the whole cast is brilliant here though,
the stand outs (from the first two episodes,
besides Linney and Giamatti) being David Morse
as George Washington, Tom Wilkinson as
Benjamin Franklin, Stephen Dillane as Tom
Jefferson and Damages' Zeljko Ivanek - who
for some reason is not mentioned in the credits! -
as John Dickinson, Adams' staunchest congressional
opponent on the subject of independence.
The scenes in Philadelphia, where the reps
from all 13 colonies meet to hash out the
situation, are magnificently compelling - you feel
like you're there with them, seeing from the
inside how our country actually came to be.
There's a great scene where John and Ben are
reading Thomas' first draft of The Declaration
of Independence (which John begged Thomas to
write, saying that he himself was "obnoxious,
suspect and unpopular" while Thomas was far more
eloquent with his pen); they're editing it,
beginning with the first line. This scene really
evokes the feeling of how our independence came
to be - it was forged by necessity, by these
men who were literally flying blind, by
the seat of their pants.
