Eagle-eyed studios circle Sundance
By Anthony Breznican, USA TODAY
What are low-budget moviemakers bringing to this year's Sundance
Film Festival? In the words of Napoleon Dynamite, one of the event's
most successful recent films, the answer is: "Whatever I feel like I
wanna do — gosh!"
Paul Giamatti stars in The Hawk is Dying, in which he plays a sad-
sack mechanic who captures and trains a red-tailed hawk.

The annual gathering of stars, amateurs and studio buyers in Park
City, Utah, starts Thursday with a slate of screen stories trying to
stand on individuality.
The Hawk is Dying
Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man, Sideways) stars as a sad sack auto
mechanic who tries to add some passion to his life by capturing and
training a red-tailed hawk. This drama is based on a Harry Crews
novel.
Plus/minus: Giamatti is the Tom Hanks of art-house cinema, bankable
and beloved. The movie also comes from Sundance veteran producer Ted
Hope, who's had hits with American Splendor, 21 Grams and In the
Bedroom.
Could be:Sideways with feathers.
Don't cha just love how he says" bankable and loveable"? um yeah I
can agree to that!
