Hi, Amy -
Thanks for sharing about the Eggs. I will most definitely be
checking them out very shortly! It's always fun to find them. When
you get a chance, let us know (if anyone is reading this besides you
and me, I mean!) about the third one, of course.
Yes, American Splendor was an amazing vehicle for Paul - I don't
believe anybody could have portrayed Pekar as spot-on as he did. I'm
a big Crumb fan, so I had TWO reasons why I couldn't wait to see that
one. (Saw it on my birthday when it came out a couple of years ago -
August 19th.)
And YES, he's hilarious in Big Fat Liar, a truly inspired
performance. The thing I've always dug most about Paul is how he's
never been afraid to be unpleasant in his films - where most actors
try so hard to be 'likeable' all the time, he relishes the opposite.
And that energy of his - he just has to show up and you feel it.
Did you catch him when he hosted SNL earlier in the season? Also,
Did you see Duets? And the Howard Stern film, where he played Pig
Vomit? Great stuff.
I had seen him in so many movies before the Stern one, where I would
always say "there's THAT guy!" but I never really knew his name,
until Private Parts. After that one, I made sure I knew who he was
and made it a point to see anything he was in. Based on that, I
would say, YES, Cinderella Man would be worth seeing just for his
performance. Going to try to see it in the next couple of weeks,
myself. Might be too busy celebrating EASTER until then. : )
Cheers,
Robby (aka The Roguester)
