Mumbai :  Heads turned and
fashionistas drooled as Bollywood actress Sri Devi walked the ramp as
the showstopper for jewellery designer Queenie Dhody's couture line at
the inaugural jewellery show of the HDIL India Couture Week here.

Wearing a black gown with a white emerald cut diamond and canary
yellow round diamond set with all solitaires, Sridevi who stole hearts
with her performances in hits like 'Mr India' and 'Chandni', set the
runaway on fire last night.

"I truly felt fabulous on the ramp. I love Queenie's jewellery,
its aesthetic appeal and style appeals to me being one of a kind
handcrafted pieces," Sridevi said.

The actress got ample support from the film fraternity with
stars like Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle Khanna, Raveena Tandon, Hrithik
Roshan, Dia Mirza, Zayed Khan and Karan Johar cheering her from the
front row.

"She is an ethereal timeless beauty, a theme that resonates
with my jewellery and is mature and graceful enough to carry off
couture, hence the perfect choice as my showstopper. Sri truly
epitomises 'Be Fabulous', which is my theme for every woman to look and
feel fabulous," Queenie Dhody said.

"From contemporary to ethnic, chic to heavy, precious to
semi-precious, I have created a variety of styles keeping in mind the
most important factor- budgets," she said.


The HDIL India Couture Week will continue till October 16 and
is expected to be a star-studded affair with Bollywood Badshah Shah
Rukh Khan gracing the ramp with wife Gauri for the grand finale show by
his friend and director Karan Johar who will make a debut at the
fashion week.

Apart from SRK, actor Salman Khan will also showcase his 'Being
Human' collection for his NGO on October 13 and stars like Aamir Khan,
Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn will be walking the ramp for
him.

Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor and noted Malayalam filmmaker Adoor
Gopalakrishnan have been conferred with the lifetime achievement award at the
ongoing 33rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) 2009.

The two were honoured at the fest Wednesday evening. Kapoor has produced hits
like Mr. India, Company, No Entry and the recent Wanted among others.

Multiple National Award winning filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has to his credit
movies like Naalu Pennungal, Swayamvaram, Kodiyettam, Mathilukal, Vidheyan and
Kathapurushan.

Kapoor's actress-wife Sridevi and brother-in-law Sandeep Marwah were also
honoured for their contribution to cinema and media at the gala event.

"I have realised that our honest and hard work will never go waste. I am excited
with this world recognition at Cairo for us and for the country," Marwah told
IANS over telephone from Cairo.

Marwah is the founder and president of Asian Academy of Film and TV (AAFT) in
Noida and has produced many short films.

India is a special guest of honour at the festival and around 25 Indian movies
will be screened during the 11-day affair that opened with Yash Raj Films' New
York Tuesday.

Gopalakrishnan is also heading the international jury of the fest alongside
Victor Okhai and Nour El Sherif.

Anil Kapoor, who is also going to be honoured at the gala for his performance in
the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, will miss the ceremony, "as he is busy
shooting for 24 in Los Angeles", said Marwah.

Irrfan Khan and model-actor Alfie Lamba are also among the stars of Slumdog
Millionare who will be honoured at the fest.

A retrospective section is also being held where five movies of filmmaker Madhur
Bhandarkar - Chandni Bar, Page 3, Corporate, Traffic Signal and Fashion - will
be screened.

The ongoing HDIL Couture Week has brought the Kapoor family jhagda out in the
open. It is a well-kept secret that Boney's and Sanjay's wives are not on
talking terms. Sridevi and Maheep had a misunderstanding, and stopped speaking
to each other sometime last year.

They even avoid being together at the same time at family functions. The cold
vibes between the sisters-in-law was known only to people close to the Kapoor
bahus but by her single act of walking the ramp for Queenie Dhody on the same
day (October 12) as Maheep's show, Sridevi has outed their conflict.



Secret's out
Says a source close to the family, "What's worse if that both the designer and
Sri kept it a secret. Only two days before her show, Maheep learned that Sri was
walking for another jewellery designer. She was stumped. Even if you don't get
along with a family member, you put on a polite front for the world. Sri's act
of endorsing a rival jewellery designer, was like making a public statement that
even Maheep's family members don't think much of her designs, and would rather
wear another designer's baubles."

Let down
Maheep is obviously feeling let down. Her Facebook status message yesterday
read: "I am is fascinated at what lengths people will go to, to spite you, and
to put you down." A friend of Maheep's says, "She has no malice for Boney or his
wife. In fact, she had a special preview of Wanted for her closest friends and
told everyone she knew that it was a great film and they should watch it. That's
what being part of the same family means."

When contacted, Maheep doesn't deny that she's upset but adds curtly, "I don't
want to comment on it. It's Sridevi's prerogative whom she wants to walk for.
Why don't you ask Boney and Sridevi if there's a problem?"

Happy face
Boney Kapoor tried to paint a happy family portrait, "Sri and I share a cordial
relationship with Maheep and Sanjay. There are no family issues and even if
there were, Sri's not a petty person to use those issues to do something like
that to hurt her deliberately."

When told that Maheep is hurt, he adds, "We didn't mean to hurt Maheep. Sridevi
came to know just a day before the show that Maheep was also showcasing her
jewellery and by then, it was too late for her to pull out.

In fact, Sri called me up in Indore and asked me what to do. I told her if she
had committed from before, then she shouldn't back out at the last moment. It
would be unprofessional. Maheep shouldn't be upset because Sri was the first
person to endorse Maheep's jewellery when she launched it and also came to the
launch of her boutique."

The youngest daughter-in-law (Maheep) knows that she has the support of Anil and
Sunita on this, but her in-laws have made it very clear they don't want to get
involved. Probably because Boney is supporting them, or maybe because they don't
think it's their place to do so.

Sridevi has not been seen on the big screen for ages but she's still in
touch with the people she worked closely with, in her days as a leading
actress.

When designer Manish Malhotra shifted into a sprawling house at
Pali Hill, the actress said she would like to make a painting for him.
She made  a 6x4 painting, had it framed and delivered to his house. B-Town's
favourite designer says. "She was so sweet.

She was worried if I would like it. She asked me where I would place it, and the
colours of the room, and made it accordingly."

The
painting occupies a place of honour in the dining area of the Malhotra
residence. And yes, it is stunning. Much like the artist.

She is the irreplaceable lady superstar of Indian cinema. Bollywood's all time
favorite Queen Bee, Sridevi celebrated her 46th birthday last
night with her family.

And to make the occasion special Sri's two pretty daughters Jahnavi, 12 and
Khusi, 8 decorated the house. Getting away for a few minutes from the chaos of
organizing a small birthday get-together, Sri excitedly informed us, "My
daughters, I can see, have devoted the last two days planning out this day.
My husband has some grand plans, I assume. And all the excitement has rubbed
onto me as well."

So who all invited for this quiet celebration? "Right now it's just family, but
you never know. My family may just decide to spring a surprise for me," she said
delightedly.

Birthdays mean gifts galore. "I wouldn't like to share what Boneyji has gifted
me, but I can tell you that it's something wearable.

It's beautiful and I plan to wear it tonight. However, the gifts that are
closest to my heart are those given by my daughters. They've been writing
beautiful letters and making birthday cards for me every year. There's nothing
more special and memorable for me," gushed the doting mother.

Birthdays are more than just cakes and candles for this lovely lady. "Before I
married Boneyji, I religiously used to visit Tirupathi on my birthdays. Other
than that, visiting orphanages and old age homes were my priorities, after which
I used to return home and celebrate the day with my sisters. Those days were so
beautiful and carefree", recalls the Sadma actress fondly "But birthday
celebrations have changed for me now. It's more about spending time with family.
They are special, because I feel complete with family."

And maybe it's this `completeness' that makes her so beautiful even today. "I
think I look better today than I did yesterday," she confesses, "That's because
I am happy. I feel a positive energy around me all the time. It's very important
to be happy and stress free, otherwise you age faster than you can imagine."

mesmeric wife Sridevi. "If I don't, her fans will kill me. I've heard a script
I've liked."


Celebrations are in order. But the Wanted party has been postponed by a week.
"Our director Prabhu Deva got caught up in an assignment in Kerala. So we've
postponed the party for next week. We can't celebrate without Prabhu," says
Boney emotionally.

Boney has not been so excited in a long time. "The collections of Wanted speak
for themselves. In the first week, it has done better business than Kambakkht
Ishq did in its entire run. There was gun-firing between two sections of
clashing Salman fans in a theatre named Rishi in Bulandshaher."

Commenting on Dil Bole Haddipa(which released along with Wanted), Boney says,
"Their intended USP was the Punjabi culture. Ironically, the film didn't even
open well in Punjab. How does one explain this? Their other USP was Rani
Mukherjee dressed as a man. But old-time heroines like Asha Parekh and Saira
Banu have done the man thing long ago. And they were buxom ladies therefore
tantalizing in their cross-dressing. With due respects to her amazing talent,
Rani looked like a school boy."
