Hair today and tomorrow as well. Cine-star Anil Kapoor talks about his
lucky charm in an exclusive interview with Lucknow Times
He'll spike it, tint it, prune it and even shave it off for a movie or
two, but he'll never lose it for good. He's the ‘mooch'-loved, oops
much-loved man of the industry, Anil Kapoor who's stuck to his
homegrown fuzz for ages now, just like he's maintained his staying
power in Bollywood. The man who once confused Mathematics geniuses
with his ‘1, 2 ka 4' logic, told Lucknow Times in an exclusive chat
that it's consistency he seeks all the time.
"Though I do follow trends like the transformation I've received at
the hands of hair dressers, I prefer to retain certain aspects of my
personality like my moustache," says Kapoor, who was on his nth visit
to Lucknow, for a special performance recently.
Compliment him on his amazing on-screen chemistry with heroines half
his age and Anil actually looks embarrassed before asking, "Really?
I'm so happy that I can continue working in the industry and have
built a comfort zone with the newer generation of actors."
So who's his favourite of 'em all? "From Rani to Sameera Reddy to
Kajol, Aishwarya, all new heroines are very professional. But it was
Sridevi who simply lit up the screen with her presence."
So would Anil consider working opposite his real life bhabhi ? "Why
not, if Sridevi's okay with it. One has to admit that our pairing was
excellent together."
Now that's a liberal Kapoor all right, but will his open attitude
stretch further allowing his pretty daughter Sonam to get into films?
"It's for my daughter to decide what she wants to do. Being from a
film family, one never knows when the acting bug would bite her. But
I'm perfectly fine with whatever Sonam plans for herself," he says.
Cool with generally everything around him, Anil is only not content
with the content of films being made currently. "Though there's a Ram
Gopal Varma, Sanjay Gupta, Aditya Chopra from the new breed of
directors, the writing bit is a little weak still. The last film, high
on content was Munnabhai MBBS ," Anil says in a matter-of-fact tone.
As for staying fit, Mr Kapoor is a frugal eater who stays many miles
away from sweets and is also into cycling. "I cycle to work, market
and almost every place. With the atmo-mask or the bikers' helmet on,
people don't recognise me on roads. It's the perfect way to commute
plus exercise," avers Kapoor before readying to move off.
Despite many years of working with pretty heroines, he's had the dream
marriage with Sunita for almost twenty years now, sans any
controversies- How come? "Simple. I've been very smart," he signs off
with a wink.
