TONIGHT! - ISLAND DAZE!!!
* TREVOR ISLAND,
(1988)Trevor's family move to a tropical island and decide to set up an airport and car park. A sedate lifestyle - however - is not Trevor's trademark, and he sets about subjugating the local seagulls. Further reckless misadventures of a quizzical cat called Trevor ensue in this hilarious follow-up to JOHN TAYLOR's brilliant Swinburne Film School cartoon classic, THE HUGE ADVENTURES OF TREVOR, A CAT (1985). Prod Co: Film Victoria/John Taylor/Funny Farm Animation Studio. Prod/Dir/Wr: John Taylor. Voice Artists: Richard Healy, Jane Lewis, Danny Nash, David Crosbie and John Taylor. 12 mins. ALC * GILLIGAN'S ISLAND:
(1964)THREE MILLION DOLLARS MORE OR LESS Here is episode 13 from Season One of this perennially popular comedy series! Thurston Howell the third loses $3 million to Gilligan in a golfing contest! Mr Howell is playing golf. Gilligan walks by carrying some supplies for the watch-tower that he and the Skipper are building. He putts the ball at Howell's insistence, and makes a hole in one. Gilligan repeats the feat, even while Howell is talking. Howell decides to bet money that Gilligan can't do it a third time, but Gilligan only has a quarter – 25 cents - to his name. He does it again and again and again, each time Thurston bets double or nothing. It's night and they're still there. The Skipper comes by, and he's furious, because Gilligan hasn't been working. He tries to talk his little buddy out of gambling, but is shocked when Gilligan mentions that he's already won three million dollars! The other castaways can't believe Gilligan's luck. The theme of this episode is that 'everybody' loves a winner. Fun Stuff from this episode: Gilligan: New dress? Ginger: Like it? I made it out of your duffel bag. I hope you don't mind. Gilligan: No, my duffel never looked so good. In this episode, when Ginger seduces Gilligan he talks about her dress ( the white one that says 'SS Minnow') as being 'new', when its been used in several episodes before. Quotes: Mr Howell: My boy do you know anything about oil? Gilligan: No, but I worked in a gas station once. Mr Howell: The American Way - from grease monkey to President of an oil company. Just shows you what a man can do if he has a little drive. Gilligan: He can do pretty good if he knows how to putt, too. Mr Howell: [The cheque's] made out. But first of all, you have to fill out an income tax form. Gilligan: Income tax form? Mr Howell: Yes. I didn't know what your salary was and I was afraid that $3 million might kick you into a higher income bracket. Professor: Why I'd love to have seen the look on Mr. Howell's face when you won all that money from him last night. Gilligan: So would I... but it was too dark. Mr Howell: Yes, I couldn't agree with you more. Come on, Gilligan, putt. Skipper: Just a moment, Howell. This boy doesn't know what he's doing. Gilligan, I know what's going on in your mind. Gilligan: You do? Skipper: Certainly. You've gotten a little ahead, and it looks like a pretty easy way of making some money. Gilligan: Sure does. Skipper: That's where you're wrong. How much do you think you can win gambling? Gilligan: $6 million if I can sink this putt. Skipper: You see? A whole afternoon wasted, and for what? What? Prod Co: CBS Television; Gladysya Productions; United Artists Television. Prod: William Froug. Dir: Ray Montgomery. Wr:Charles Tannen, Bill Davenport. Mus:John Williams. Created: SHERWOOD SCHWARTZ. Cast: BOB DENVER (Gilligan), JIM BACKUS (Thurston Howell III), TINA LOUISE (Ginger Grant), ALAN HALE Jr. (Jonas Grumby [The Skipper] ), NATALIE SCHAFER (Eunice Wentworth 'Lovey' Howell), DAWN WELLS (Mary Ann Summers), RUSSELL JOHNSON (Professor Roy Hinkley Jr). 25 mins. RM Plus!- 'Quickie Theatre' presents - * A NIGHT TO (1958)REMEMBER, [excerpt] Well, it IS 'KENNETH MORE' night, so, how could we resist?! A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, of course, deals with the tragic disaster of the sinking of THE TITANIC. Sadly, we've not got the whole film here, but some great scenes, nonetheless - the Captain (LAURENCE NAISMITH) giving the order to abandon ship, and the subsequent reactions of the passengers and the crew. Based on the book by Walter Lord. Prod Co: Rank Organisation. Prod: William MacQuitty. Dir: Roy Baker. Cast: KENNETH MORE, LAURENCE NAISMITH, Thomas Andrews, Michael Goodliffe. 12 mins. ALC followed by: *PARADISE LAGOON (1957) Loam Hall, England, 1905: The main character, Crichton - played perfectly by (the great) KENNETH MORE - is the indefatigable, 'perfect' butler to a family of haughty Edwardian aristocrats, headed by Lord Loam (CECIL PARKER). Crichton is comfortable with his 'place' in the social pecking order, and no believer in egalitarianism - while his employer, Loam, attempts to 'impose' equality on his servants and staff. ( - You may surely see the irony in that!) When the family - including Crichton and the household's young 'in-between' maid, Tweeny (DIANE CILENTO) - are shipwrecked and marooned on a tropical South Seas desert island, Crichton is proven rather right, in that, one way or the other, Man - a social and political being - is a creature of hierarchy. (At the same time, Crichton discovers much more than that about himself - and the others discover what kind of man they had been treating as someone 'lower down on the ladder'.) Within a few weeks, cracks have begun to appear in the social pecking order and the class system goes topsy-turvy: Crichton is newly appointed "Governor", Lord Loam - brought low - becomes "Daddy", and the rest of the 'Upstairs' take up roles as the Working Class. The eldest of the three daughters, Lady Mary (SALLY ANN HOWES) - believing she will never return to England - falls in love with the "Governor" - which dashes Tweeny's hopes, as she also 'carries a torch' for the 'Guv'. This is one of those films you see once and will always remember. An excellent cast contributes to an unbeatable re-telling of the tale, lampooning the snobbery - both overt and inverted - inherent in the 'Upstairs Downstairs' caste system of Victorian England. Incidentally, the story was originally filmed as early as 1918. KENNETH MORE, DIANE CILENTO, CECIL PARKER, and (special Splodge! Award of Distinction to Hammer Films regular) MARTITA HUNT, as the pruriently inquisitive Lady Brocklehurst, excel in their respective roles as servants and masters; with MORE and PARKER perfectly changing their personas and protocols to convey the hilarity of subsequent role-reversal. A delightful and thoughtful ending make this film a must-see! Prod: Ian Dalrymple. Dir: LEWIS GILBERT. Wr: LEWIS GILBERT, Vernon Harris ( from the play by J. M. BARRIE). Phot: Wilkie Cooper. Ed: Peter R. Hunt. Prod'n Des: William Kellner. Costume Design: Bernard Nevill. Mus: RICHARD ADDINSELL, Douglas Gamley. Cast: KENNETH MORE (William Crichton), DIANE CILENTO (Tweeny), CECIL PARKER (Lord Loam), SALLY ANN HOWES (Lady Mary), MARTITA HUNT (Lady Brocklehurst), Jack Watling (Treherne), Peter Graves (Brocklehurst), Gerald Harper (Ernest), Mercy Haystead (Catherine), Miranda Connell (Agatha), MILES MALLESON (Vicar). 94 mins.
