Try looking into the IATSE apprentice programs, some Locals have them if you
can qualify to train.

I worked for free and have been doing it ever since for 21 years now.
There is no one guaranteed way to get the knowledge, but surrounding yourself
with people who already have their craft honed will help and keep you inspired
to learn.
I never meant to suggest this specific site would do that, so please let's not
give advise that is to myopic.

I dont think there are effects related vendors her and I dont think they'd like it if I hlep them they want people that know what there doing. I found this...
