Dr. Jose Rizal is the preminant national hero of the Republic of the
Philippines. His death by firing squad led the Philippine people to,
at last, rise up against the Spanish. This subsequently folded into
one aspect of the Spanish American war. It also led to the
Philippine - American war (Philippine Insurrection) which followed
the defeat of the Spanish and the treaty with Spain that ceded the
Philippines to the United States following the Spanish American War.
I am pleased to announce that three pictures of Ferdinand
Blumentritt, the Austrian, colleague, friend, supporter, and
confidant of Dr. Jose Rizal can now be found in the Yahoo Group, RP-
Rizal. It may be found by going to the group
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RP-Rizal/
When in the group go to "Photos"
Then go to the folder "The Life of Rizal"
Then go to the subgroup "Blumentritt."
To date, there is, to my knowledge only one very small picture of
Blumentritt on the Internet (found in the Austrian - Philippine
Homepage). It is, unfortunately, quite small. These pictures could
be well used by students giving a report that includes in toto or in
part, something on the life of Ferdinand Blumentritt.
(1) The first picture is quite interesting. It is a sketch of
Blumentritt done by Dr. Jose Rizal, himself.
(2) The second is the picture found in the Austrian - Philippine
Homepage of Bllumentritt in a military uniform.* This picture,
however, is in a larger size suitable for use in a report.
(3) The last is what appears to be a publicity photograph of
Blumentritt as he gave lectures.
I am delighted to provide this resource to the public and hope that
students will especially be able to make use of these pictures.
I am,
Cordially yours,
Dr. Robert L. Yoder
