I was wondering if anyone had any information on the old boys of the
Blue & Gray from 61' who came out of retirement to fight the
Spaniards in 98'? I have created a website for the Sons of Spanish
American War Veterans Camp that I am trying to form in North
Carolina, South Carolina, & Georgia and I have a section on there for
them but don't have anything like a complete list. I know the main
ones like Confederate's Maj-Gen. Joseph Wheeler, Maj-Gen. Tom Rosser,
Maj-gen. Fitzhugh Lee, Maj.-gen. Matthew C. Butler, Col. William C.
Oates, and several others, plus the Union Soldiers like Maj.-gen.
Adelbert Ames, Maj-gen. Wesley Merritt, Maj.-gen. James H. Wilson,
and as before several others. If anyone cares to visit the website it
can be found at:
http://www.geocities.com/sonsofspanamwar/
It is interesting to note that the namesake of this camp is Maj.
Micah J. Jenkins whose father was Confederate Brigadier-general Micah
Jenkins who was Killed by friendly fire at the Battle of the
Wilderness in May of 1864. Anyways, any information would be greatly
appriciated. I remain, as always,
Your Faithful, and obedient, servant,
Kenneth H. Robison II,
Irmo, South Carolina.
