This IS my favorite movie. It has been for many years. The premise,
the pacing, the action, the acting, the setting, the theme, all work
elegantly together to make for a flick that not only withstands
repeated viewings, but actually invites them. It's arguably the
finest sci-fi flick ever (and I include Star Wars in that
assessment), and to my mind anyway one of the best movies period.

Now why all that effusive praise at this moment? Well I found a
colorized version of The Thing the other day and this past weekend I
got around to enjoying it. I'm not an advocate of colorizing (though
I fail to see the harm since in almost every instance it only offers
another iteration of an existing film), but with a movie that I've
seen dozens of times it offered some fresh takes on long familiar
scenes.

The movie was big fun to watch again, and I'll admit a few details
here and there stood out because of the color. It's nice to see a
fresh detail in a film you've seen so often.

The Thing is a great movie. The colorized version was fun to see.

What do you all think? About The Thing? About Colorization?

Hi Dean, I'm not a fan of colorization, in a sort of curmudgeonly way, so not really sure if that would in any way enhance my enjoyment of this classic film,...
