Thanks for letting me know. Looks like I will be able to get a roll from Mark Ursetta before our production starts, after all. And that way he can then just bill the film for it.
Appreciate the help,
Danielle

Hello SOFaT members,
Some of you I've meet, some I haven't yet, but I will be working in Grants Pass
on the 'Rogue River' film, from Nov. 27th - Dec. 22nd. I live in Ashland, so I'm
desperately trying to find a place to stay in GP during the shoot, to save
myself the almost 2hr daily commute. If you, or someone you know, has a couch,
room, or is going out of town and would like their place looked after, would you
please let me know. Even if it is for part or all of that time period, it would
be a great help. I'm very responsible and respectful. Just looking for somewhere
to sleep and shower :) Of course would be happy to pay for my costs while there.
Thank you all very much,

Plus, we have many fun and interesting activities to network, socialize, and learn. The SOFaT website is receiving a lot of hits, our phone is getting calls, our name is getting more and more out there, we've joined the Ashland Chamber and the Medford/Jackson Country Chamber (the largest in the state), we're planning some big events with the ashland independent film festival, and all of that is still just the beginning.

Tuesday gathering

Seriously, though, there's been a lot going on in Southern Oregon film lately.
Several productions shooting this month or gearing up. For our November meeting,
let's get together for some informal talk and relaxation at Blondie's Bistro in
Grants Pass. Have a bite or try one of the 50 cocktails on their menu, such as
the Habanero martini. For those not familiar with Grants Pass, take the northern
I-5 exit onto Sixth Street and get in the right-hand lane. Turn right on G
Street, and Blondie's is in the shopping center at Sixth and G, at 226 S.W. G
St. www.blondiesbistro.com This gathering is open to members and non-members, so
bring along someone you think might be interested in joining.
Don't forget that our Dec. 1 meeting will be a big one: elections! If you have
not expressed interested in being on the board or nominated someone, now is the
time.

OPA's Film Financing seminars continue with this next installment, focusing on Movie Marketing.
SOFaT members get the same pricing as OPA or OMPA members, and register early to also get the Early Bird Discount. Details at http://nwffmarketing.eventbrite.com/.
Event Description:
For decades all a filmmaker had to do was make a great film, license it to the highest bidder, and sit back while the distributor figured out how to market it, booked it into theatres, leveraged the ancillary rights and collected the money.
Today, traditional one-stop pick-up deals have all but vanished as the costs of theatrical distribution escalate and a new frontier of digital opportunities emerges. Making back your investment, much less making a living at filmmaking, now requires savvy marketing to compete on the festival circuit and attract a mix of viable distribution partners, as well as paying audience.
Through this intensive one-day workshop, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the tools and strategies needed to maximize revenue through theatrical, VOD, TV, DVD, digital downloads, educational and other channels.
Presented by Lyla Foggia, the morning session will spotlight how some of the most successful indie hits broke through with niche marketing, along with professional tips and techniques on how to do it yourself. The afternoon session will feature panel discussions with industry experts and local filmmakers sharing insights and winning tactics from the trenches.
About the presenter: Portland-based independent film marketing and publicity consultant Lyla Foggia is a former TriStar Pictures vice president who served on the senior marketing teams for over 75 major motion pictures at three studios and two leading production companies. She was also the unit publicist on such films as “E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial,” “Splash,” “WarGames,” among others. Since 1999, Foggia has consulted on numerous indie films, including “Selfless,” “Not Dead Yet,” “Raising Flagg,” and “Street.” For more information: www.foggiapr.com.
Panelists to be announced shortly.

da Vinci Film Festival Late Entry Deadline Drawing Near
The "late entry" deadline for submissions to the 2010 da Vinci Film Festival is Nov. 1, 2009. Film submissions can be made via Withoutabox (withoutabox.com), an online service for film festivals. Accepted films will be screened in Corvallis, Ore., venues during the festival March 12-14, 2010.
Inspired by the innovation of Leonardo da Vinci, the festival welcomes filmmakers of all ages and abilities, including professional filmmakers and new artists seeking their first festival screening.
Films will be accepted in the categories of Narrative Features, Narrative Shorts, Documentary (features and shorts compete in one category), Animation, Experimental (shorts only), and Young Filmmakers (K-12). Feature films must be 120 minutes or less. Films in short film categories must be 30 minutes or less.
All films will be judged by industry professionals, and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning film in each category. The festival committee also will present the Audience Favorite Award and the Spirit of da Vinci Award, given to the film that best exemplifies Leonardo's eclectic world view.
The festival is especially interested in works that incorporate themes of art and science, but all submitted films will be considered for selection.
"This year, we are seeing increased numbers of short film submissions and not as many features," said Film Festival director Lainie Turner. "But we're looking forward to receiving last minute submissions that will include features in all genres."
Selected films will be presented in intimate theater settings at the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus and downtown at the Darkside Cinema, an independent three-screen venue that specializes in bringing art, foreign, and independent films to Corvallis audiences. Special encore screenings of selected films in each category will be showcased during the da Vinci Days Festival in July 2010.
Filmmakers will be hosted as festival guests, and join a special filmmaker panel that will take questions from the audience. The festival also will host an opening-night reception and other networking opportunities to give filmmakers an opportunity to meet and discuss their work.
For more information, call the da Vinci Film Festival director at 541-908-1848, or visit the da Vinci Film Festival website: www.davincifilmfest.org/

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some able-bodied and eager representatives to attend a couple events on behalf of SOFaT.
The first is tomorrow at noon, an Ashland Chamber luncheon hosted by Living Opportunities. Sounds like there will be plenty of food and a good opportunity to network. The location is at Pro Tools, 210 E. Hersey St.
The second is a dinner on Thursday night, also a Chamber event, to commemorate an auspicious anniversary with our sister city of Guanajuato. SOFaT will gladly pay for 2 seats at the dinner for a couple energetic members who will preach the SOFaT gospel.
And of course, I encourage anyone who can attend these, as well as the weekly Greeters, to promote themselves secondarily.
Please let me know if you can do one or both events, and I'll give you instructions on how to get some SOFaT materials - cards, articles, etc. - from storage.
