I hope some of you made it to Medford High School last Friday to give our legislators a piece of our mind. The efforts are continuing, so if you did or didn't make it, there is a huge opportunity coming up in Salem in a few weeks. Here is a copy of an email from Susan Haley at the Oregon Film Office. If you can join the effort, please contact her immediately. Let's show those Salem folks (and our Portland brethren) that we care about filming in the state and our region in particular by getting some folks up there. And if you are thinking of going, let's hear about it on the SOFAT group. Maybe a commitment from a few of you will spark some action in others.
We are confirming attendance for Industry Day in Salem on Monday, April 30th. Can you help me to get the message out that we still need people to sign up to be in Salem at least part of the day to visit their legislators. We also have space in the Galleria of the State Capitol building so that legislators can stop by and visit and chat about what’s going on in the state about our own industry. We have an equipment truck, set photos, trained animals, and several volunteers who will be there to talk about what they do and why the industry is important to them. But we have no one from southern Oregon yet. If anyone has props, equipment or anything that might attract attention and draw people to the presentation that would be very helpful. The last item we’re trying to fill in is that we need two people to be Follow Spot Operators for the evening event at the Elsinore Theatre. They will have to be at the theatre by 1pm for a tech rehearsal and then the performance is from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. In addition to the state legislators, the Governor and his wife will be attending the Elsinore event and will speak about the importance of supporting (and funding) film and the arts.
Please help me encourage people to sign up to be in Salem that day. This is a great opportunity to have some one-on-one time with state legislators and to show that this is an industry that works throughout the state.
