So my little southern Oregon feature has now been accepted in to its
fifth and sixth film festivals. It will screen at the Phoenix Film
Festival (Arizona not Oregon) in April and the Big Island Film
Festival (Hawaii of course)in May. And, it's garnered two awards
so far (Audience Awards at the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival
and Miami Underground Film Festival). But now it's time to figure
out distribution. I've had two distribution companies offer to pick
up the movie so far. They are both requesting 5 year deals but are
offering no money up front. My background is in TV commercial
production so this movie distribution stuff is new to me and I'm
wondering if there is anyone out there that can help provide me with
some insight on how to deal with a distributor. Seems like there are
a lot of filmmakers that never see a dime from their distributor, I
don't want to become another one of those filmmakers. So, please
reply with your words of wisdom or if you feel you have a wealth of
information I'd be happy to buy you a cup of coffee or a beer so I
can pick your brain.
Finally, if you know anyone who will be in Phoenix, Arizona on
Saturday evening April 14 or in the Waikaloa area of Hawaii on Friday
evening May 18 please let them know there is a movie called "Sixes
and the One Eyed King" screening at the film festival that they must
see (and the director will be there to answer any of their questions).
Thanks for reading all this.
