Re: [sofat] Updates and new members

Lots of great news in the update, Gary. Thanks.
Since I had to miss the last get-together, add my vote to the idea of another.

And while we're getting new intros, I'll take
this horn-tooting opportunity which I failed to do when I joined the group.

My name is Sean McCoy (feels like an AA meeting
intro), and I've been running Oregon Sound
Recording locally for the past 20 years. Those of
you who have been around the Valley since the
last millennium will know that while my studio
and I wear many caps, the focus has always been
on audio post. Over the years my bread and butter
has been advertising work, and I can honestly say
I've produced audio for tens of thousands of
commercials. Longer form film and video work is
more fun, though, if not always as steady.

Back in the day, I did extensive post work for
Trilobyte, did audio post and composed the full
score for "The Ruby Princess Runs Away," later
doing post work on "Raspberry Heaven" and "Into
Me See." More recently I've done post and written
some music for Ted Raimi's short, "My Treat,"
James Twyman's documentary, "The Moses Code," and
am still finishing up work on Bruce Campbell's
new movie, "My Name is Bruce," for which I've
acted as supervising sound editor (i.e., I did everything!).

My first love is writing music for picture, with
sound design and its related fields a close
second. My new studio was custom-designed in 2002
as a 5.1 mixing room, and, thankfully, this has
finally been taken advantage of in recent months.
I only have three things to say about mixing in
5.1: it sounds better, it sounds better, and it
sounds better. Obviously, I'm heartily
encouraging everyone producing anything for DVD
or theatre to mix in surround whenever possible. Because it sounds better.

Sorry if this sounds like an ad—too many years
making them, I guess! Thanks for letting me
waste your time, and hope to see many of you soon at the next gathering.
