Two new members in about as many days. That's really terrific. Let's try to keep up the momentum. If you know anyone new to the area who works in media or film, or someone who's been here but just isn't a member yet, send them my way. Strength in numbers!
Did everyone see the article in Oregon Film Magazine that came out recently? They had a great story on Calvin Marshall and a terrific photo of the shoot right on the cover. Plus, the editor asked me to pen an article about SOFAT and the industry in general down here. If you haven't seen it or want a copy, let me know. They sent me a huge box filled with copies of the magazine.
That is some good press for us down here, and I'd like to see us all continuing our networking efforts, SOFAT enrollments, and keeping each other in the loop on projects generated both locally and abroad. Laney, you've been doing a great job with that. Lynn, someone contacted me from Crawford but was exceedingly vague, and I never heard from him again when I asked for more details. What's going up in Eugene that we should all know about?
Several of our young crewmembers from Calvin Marshall will be or are working on big feature projects in the NW - Bill Rowe, Jackson Rowe, and Brian Amlin (B-Sauce!) are working on Twilight, the big-budget teenage vampire flick shooting in P-town. And Jason Cohoon is getting ready to head to Seattle for the US portion of a big movie called Traveling with Aaron Ekhart.
Quite a few of us worked for a couple days on a Toyota commercial/documentary out of Australia a few weeks back that shot in Weed. Sunny and clear in Ashland; freak blizzard in Weed. Dare I say it was actually fun?
Member Bruce Hostetler, local casting director and theater director, directed an exceptionally good young cast at AHS in Beauty and the Beast, and I can't recommend highly enough that you go and see it. Its amazing. If you need youngsters in your projects, talk to Bruce. He knows them all. Plus, one of our fine young interns on Calvin Marshall, Jeffrey Star, is not only in the play, he's THE BEAST! If you remember quiet, reserved Jeffrey hanging out around the office or the set, you won't believe he can belt it out like that. So check it out and THAT'S NOT A REQUEST. (Okay, that's a line from the play, but you really should go.)
I know there's much more going on here, so let's hear about it! You never know where a little advice, a lot of help, or a connection with big money or distribution potential is going to come from.
Maybe now that spring is coming, we should have another get-together. There was an offer to do it at Tyler's house. Tyler, is that still a possibility in the next few weeks? Or another mixer at a bar perhaps. Last time at Alex's went well. We could try another place.
Cheers to all,
Gary Kout
