| I have yet to come across a Kodak M16 camera or projector that works! You see 'em around all the time on eBay and thrift stores. Bought a camera off eBay long ago, didn't work. Seen numerous other M16 products, always broken. Saw a really cool-looking M16 Dual Super8/8mm projector at Goodwill a few days ago, solid, and a very unique design. Didn't work. I realize that we're talking about 30-plus year old equipment...but other makes and models of cameras and projectors seem to fare much better. The M16 stuff...always broken. I know that towards the end of Super 8's reign, products got cheaper and cheaper and flimsier in attempts to cut costs and compete with video. But the M16 projector I mentioned earlier was very rugged and solid, comparable to a Sears/Bell & Howell model. One of the nuttiest products of the final days of Super 8 is that Bentley viewer that looks like a little TV. Think they used the same body for actual TVs. Gray-colored, takes batteries, grinds loudly as it plays, and you have to rewind by hand. Truly an engineering joke. When you see them, they are almost always in mint condition...probably because they were so crappy they didn't get used much! Still...they are a cute novelty. I've owned and sold a few. Some people really like 'em. Mike Warden |
