I just heard from George Ingmire that his uncle Dwight Core, Jr.
passed away this afternoon after a brief illness. Dwight was the
subject and heart of THINK OF ME FIRST AS A PERSON, the poignant
amateur documentary made by his father Dwight, Sr. that was named to
the National Film Registry in 2006 (and was shown at the AMIA
conference in Anchorage and the recent Orphan Film Symposium). Sadly,
he died just as George was receiving the DVDs of the film from the
printer, so he didn't get to see the finished product, although George
did tell me that he greatly enjoyed watching his younger self on TV.
A good introduction to the adult Dwight, Jr. can be found in the "My
Favorite Child" piece that was produced by the Virginia-Pilot
newspaper following the Registry announcement.
