Has anyone taken a large amount of the new Kodak Super 8 films
through a US airport lately? I will be traveling with 50 rolls
of film soon. My experience is that TSA screeners are too
young to know what Super 8 film is. Although on the TSA
website they indicate that they will hand check movie film if
requested by the passenger, the new 64T is now sold wrapped
inside of a plain, white wrapper inside of the usual Kodak box.
TSA mandates that we remove the film from the outside box.
How do the TSA airport screeners react to this plain white
wrapper? Before, with the Kodachrome 40s, the wrapper was
gold and blue with a repeated Kodak logo on it. Now, the
airport screeners will see only a white wrapper. Do they
hand check it with the white wrapper intact? Do they demand
that the passenger take off the white wrapper to expose the
film cartridge (and thus exposing the film to lint and other
contaminents)? How are you handling this? I do not want to
put the film through the x-ray machine, as I will be taking
multiple flights in Europe and want to limit the x-ray damage.
What do I do? I have thought about putting each individual
film cartridge in a plastic baggie--would this be acceptable
to the TSA folks? Would the plastic baggie protect the film?
Lots of questions, I know! What is your experience? (Kodak
does not answer my email inquiries.) Thank you so much.
