Hi - if I may butt in, thought you might be interested, there is a toy 16mm projector in my collection, that had continuous film travel, no claw no shutter, just an eight sided prism in the light path. Called the "Happy Time Projector, made by Sears Roebuck. I was told that Kodak engineers toyed with the idea for a while.

Dear Mark,
Film viewers (including flatbeds) use a rotating prism so that you
get the effect of intermittent motion like with a shutter and a claw
even though there is no shutter and the film is passing continuously
through the gate. The effect is like a lap dissolve between each
frame.
