We're all familiar with the Columbia 40's era Batman
Super 8 and 8mm film. Six parts, 200' a reel,
colorfully illustrated boxes. Adapted from the movie
serials. A similar 50' reel was also sold, same box
only smaller. It's a quick chase scene.

However, there is another Batman adaptation. I've got
two 50' reels, adapted from the serial, that come in
pastel-colored boxes. Plain packaging; just a Batman
logo. One box is pink, one light purple. No date.

The six-part 200' reel set is a great example of the
adaptation being better than the full version! I've
got the complete series on video, and boy, is it
dull!! But the silent 8mm adaptation rolls right along
nicely!

Watching the Batman reels as a kid are some of my
fondest childhood memories! We were missing a few
reels...so for years we were hanging on a
cliffhanger...finally got the missing reels and now I
can rest easy...

The Batman reels would always get lots and lots of
laughs when my Dad showed them...supposedly the same
thing was happening when Hef showed them at Playboy
parties...a guest got the idea of creating a "funny"
version of Batman and the rest is history...The text
and narration that opens and closes each episode are
very similar to the text and narration that open and
close each 60's Batman episode.

A final thought...are there any Super or regular 8
films of the 60's Batman show? 16mm prints usually go
for a good buck.
