Hi fellow film enthusiasts,
I have just received a query from some local SF equity investors anxious to discover whether the SFBA
professional film-making community is sufficiently deep, broad, talented and knowledgeable enough
to, yearly, support the production of 7 to 10 independent narrative feature films...films that could compete
in the Intnl marketplace.
Their objective is to determine if the local film scene (creative talent, writers, technical crew and crafts
service companies) is capable of shooting most of the principal photography in this area. The budget
numbers they were discussing range from 1 to 5 million,$ US. Obviously, these budget figures strongly suggest
a HDDV shoot...although, I guess one could pull off a great 35mm shoot at their high end figure ?!?
To this end, I'm soliciting comments from all interested professional, civic, creative, entry-level & educational
filmmaking community members, with the thought of compiling a "state-of-the-area" profile report.
I would very much like your help.
Would you participate by: telling me what you consider to be the 5 or 6 most salient requirements needed
to insure the production volume of 7 -10 films every year. It would also be helpful if you could give your opinion
on the present SFBA strengths and weaknesses, vis-a-vis, accomplishing this goal of 7-10 shoots per year.
Any other insights, notions and gems of wisdom would be greatly appreciated...and should be sent to:
