"Trapped In The Closet" is a group of songs (or "Chapters") released by R&B singer R. Kelly in the late summer and fall of 2005. The songs were set up in an ongoing narrative in which Kelly then sent to radio stations one part at a time to generate interest. The song has been described as "the first rap opera." It is unique in that it includes an absence of a chorus, but is detailed, matter of fact, and has a more linear narration of a story told in a conversational manner using dramatics and dangling cliffhangers between the episodes.

As of November 2005, 12 Chapters have been released, though there were originally only 6, which Kelly then added to. The story is about a man named Sylvester, portrayed by Kelly (real name - Robert Sylvester Kelly) who is caught up in a series of intertwining dramas with numerous plot twists. The song has also reached a minor cult status as a piece of unintentional comedy,^{[citation needed]} as some of even R.Kelly's fans themselves going so far as to refer to it as the "Plan 9 of music videos."
