ABC Says Never Again
It's finally happened. In a move that fans have been fearing, ABC has
announced that it's pulling the family drama Once and Again after
three years. The last episode will air April 15.
Although the series, about the romance, marriage and family life of
two divorced parents (Sela Ward and Billy Campbell), was loved by
critics, it suffered from tepid ratings. The show, which launched in
September 1999, also had been bounced all over the ABC schedule
during its run. Recently it was moved from Fridays at 10 p.m. ET to
Mondays at 10.
Nonetheless, Ward won an Emmy in 2000 for Outstanding Lead Actress in
a Drama Series and a Golden Globe in 2001 for Best Performance by an
Actress in a Drama Series.
So will Karen (Susanna Thompson) recover? Is Jessie (Evan Rachel
Wood) gay? "The program has passionately devoted fans who deserve a
fully realized conclusion to Rick and Lily's story," said Susan Lyne,
ABC's Entertainment president. "And we owe it to [creators Ed Zwick
and Marshall Herskovitz] — and the phenomenal cast they assembled
—
to give the series a great sendoff."
