SEATTLE -- Join Northwest Asian American Theatre (NWAAT)
and special guest Donald Young of the National Asian
American Telecommunications Association (NAATA) for the
Northwest premiere of the new PBS series "Searching for
Asian America." The three-part series will be presented on
Friday, September 5 at the Theatre Off Jackson in Seattle's
International District. The event begins at 6:30pm with a
reception at the Wing Luke Asian Museum. At 8:00pm, the
series will be screened along with the short film "All
American Meal" by local filmmaker Max Chan. A question-and- answer
session moderated by Mimi Gan of KING 5's "Evening
Magazine" follows. Proceeds from the event will benefit
Northwest Asian American Film Festival 2003 which runs
October 23-26.
"Searching for Asian America" details three very different
Asian American experiences:
* "Oklahoma Home" shows how Martin Bautista and Jeffrey
Lim, two Filipino immigrant doctors, navigate living in the
predominantly Caucasian town of Guymon, Oklahoma, a hog- farming
community deep in the American heartland.
* "Angry Little Asian Girl" features the travails of Lela
Lee, cast member of the Sci-Fi network series "Tremors" and
creator of the underground comic and website "Angry Little
Girls" (www.angrylittlegirls.com). Lee gets real about her
3-D life as an Asian American female in Hollywood.
* "The Governor" recounts the political trailblazing of
Washington's own Governor Gary Locke, the highest elected
official of Asian descent on the mainland United States.
>From his beginnings as the son of first-generation Chinese
immigrants to becoming the leader of his home state, Locke
is living the American dream. However, as Governor Locke
recounts, it is a life with burdens as well as benefits.
Tickets for this event are $25 and can be purchased at the
Theatre Off Jackson box office on the evening of the event
or at www.brownpapertickets.com. For group rates and press
screening information, please contact Wes Kim at 206-719-
6261.

the Pacific Northwest and to bring Asian American works
from across North America to Seattle audiences. Previously
presented as "A-Fest: Through the Lens," the 2003 festival
will take place October 23-26 at the Theatre Off Jackson in
Seattle's International District. For more information
