This is a new group for script writers, producers, managers, actors, agents, attorneys. The fundamental premise of this group is that individuals working in the same field are rarely in competition with one another. For example, a producer looking for a new version of "The Shining" is not going to want a director who is great at comedies and a writer who is wonderful at romance.
For example: if you have written "The Shining" and run into a producer somewhere looking for "Gone with the Wind" there is not a lot of harm in mentioning "You know, this producer wants to make Gone with the Wind." There is also not a lot of harm in telling the producer "You know, this guy I know has a great Gone with the Wind script. You should read it." That is actually how Hollywood works.
There's also nothing wrong with asking people here, "Anyone know who wants to make the Shining?"
Why bother to help anyone? Because one guy looking for a producer, writer, agent in Hollywood is a guy looking for a needle in a haystack. A dozen guys looking for a dozen needles are likely to find their needles faster.
The one constant in this business is that folks who do well in Hollywood help one another. Helpful happy people form networks. Individuals get their objectives met while meeting the objectives of folks who may be able to help them later.
Also, its nice to get a kind word from people who understand how difficult it is to be slave to the Muse. Working in intensely collaborative environments to create films that amuse, enlighten, entertain and educate just isn't the holy grail for most folks, but writers, actors, directors and producers can think of nothing else.
This is a positive, happy, upbeat group. Its brand new but it will grow in the weeks and months to come. Be pleasant, happy, upbeat and helpful. Feel free to promote your own work here. This board may be moderated from time to time. Behave badly and you'll be banned.
