Subject: Re: [Screenwriting Structure] Re: Curious
I think Neil's problem is not that he does not have a good idea where he's
going it's just that he is distracted by other ideas. He admits that he does
this for a living which probably makes it just another project for him. He
does not have his heart and soul in it. He wants to write another script.
Not the one he is actually working on. But he needs to finish this one
because he needs the money. So the only way to do it is to wade right in. Do
the flash card thing and work thru it as quickly as possible in note form
and flesh out the ideas later. That will leave less time for thinking
around the subject and getting distracted by ideas for other plays that are
not on the table right now. I only write screenplays that I plan to produce
so that it is exciting to see it thru to the end. If I had to write open
ended screenplays that I just sold and didn't see thru to the end I'd be
bored and distracted too.
