Hi ladies, gents and Sam,
I have been with the group a while and this is the
first message that I have posted. For this I
appologise but I have read all your posts with intrest
and have picked upsome uesful tips.
In reference to Sam's question, I think that you can
pretty much teach yourself screenwriting without
forking out thousands of dollars on uni courses. If
you have a creative mind then it should come
naturally. You may even find that a formal course may
dampen your style. Give it a go and ask heaps of
questions of these guys when you are having troubles.
Read at least two good screenwriting books, "the
screenwriting bible" is a good source, and give it a
whirl.
There are also alot of message boards around whoes
residents also have alot of useful advice. Check out:
http://us.imdb.com/boards/
and,
http://pub18.ezboard.com/bscriptsecrets
I have also found alot of useful websires out there by
typing "Screenwriting" in the yahoo search engine.
I am a complete novice but I am muddling slowly
through my first screenplay and there has been some
invaluble advice that I have been able to cyphen out
of these guys. Some my seem a little sarcastic but
that is the will of the modern writer I suppose.
I say give it a go and if you're serious then you can
get critiqued by a pofessional script analist.
Hope this helps and good luck to you,
DaveB

Hey Guys,
New to the group, and just wondering whether any of
you have studied
scriptwriting at university?
I'm 17, and very keen on scriptwriting. However, I've
been told that
scriptwriting at uni is boring and a waste of time.
Just wondering if
I could have some other opinions.
Also, I'm going to start on my first screenplay in the
summer, so I'm
reading up at the moment on how to structure etc. my
screenplay. I've
read '500 ways to beat the Hollywood Script Reader'
and was wondering
if any of you could recommend any other good books,
websites etc.
that could provide me with useful info.
Thanks alot,
Sam.
