She was in 'Beowulf and Grendel' a couple of years ago. I've not seen
it, so I don't know if it's any good or not.

I thought both versions of Beowulf were interesting interpretations of
the book. I Liked them both and each took it's liberties with the
story to comment on our times with similar themes of the seductiveness
of power and corruption. The biggest difference is that the version
Sarah is in eskews the jaw-dropping special effects and action
sequences of Zemekis' version in favor of 'Land of the Lost' style
rubber masks and Lo-fi effects. There's a lot more humor in Sarah's
version, too. Some scenes seemed right out of Monty Python. Sarah is
particularly saucy in it and the ladies love Gerard Butler. It's
definately worth checking out but I wouldn't kill myself to get it.
More interesting looking is the documentary 'Wrath of the Gods' about
the making of 'Beowulf and Grendel' with interviews with everybody in
the cast cause apparently the production ran into 'Baron Munchaesen'
sized difficulties with weather, technical problems, etc. Similar
to 'Lost in La Manch' the great documentary about the undoing of Terry
Gilliam's Don Quijote film with Johnny Depp.

SURPRISE
There were so many surprises in Sarah Polley's first film as a
director, Away from Her. First, that still in her mid 20s - and in a
youth-obsessed industry - she chose to make a love story about an
ageing couple. Second, that she talked Julie Christie into playing one
of her leads, a woman at the onset of Alzheimer's (a career high for
Christie). Perhaps most surprising of all is that the result is such a
measured and moving film. But then again, this is a woman who was
allegedly blacklisted by Disney at 12 for refusing to take off a peace
badge at a showbiz function.

Julie Christie'S performance in Sarah Polley's Away from Her won the
National Board of Review award as Best Actress. Oscar nomination to
follow.... (Let's hope our girl gets one too, as Best Director.)

Sarah the "New Generation" Award from the Los Angeles Film
Critics Association for her directorial debut "Away From Her," it was
announced on December 9, 2007 in L.A.

The New York Film Critics Circle, which when I first seriously started
following film as a pre-teen (circa 1972) was at least as prestigious
as the Oscars, has named JULIE CHRISTIE Best Actress for AWAY FROM HER,
and awarded Sarah Polley for BEST FIRST FILM!!!

WAY TO GO, GALS!
The New York Film Critics Online (not to be confused with the NY Film
Critics Circle) has named JULIE CHRISTIE Best Actress for AWAY FROM HER
given Our Lady Sarah Best Debut Director.

First major award nomination...

Nothing for Sarah, unfortunately. But then, I have a feeling the movie
will be up for several Genie Awards when the time comes (nominations
will be announced probably next month, with them being handed out in
February).
This time, from the Toronto Film Critics Association, in the form of
three awards: one for Julie Christie (Best Actress), one for the film
itself (Best Canadian Film), and one for our Sarah (Best First-Time
Director)...

The sad thing is that it looks none of the award shows will be televised. and
perhaps many people won't show up anyways.
i was really hoping to see julie win tons of award and thank sarah

jchopwood@... jchopwood Fri Dec 28, 2007 10:17 am (PST) I don't
think Sarah will be nominated as Best Director but is a
possibility for Best Adapted Screenplay:

There may be a little gleam of hope for, at least, the Golden Globes
to be televised...

The Writers Guild received waivers for both awards shows. The SAG
Awards (for which Julie Christie is a nominee) take place later this
month; the Independent Spirit Awards (no nominations for AFH) will be
handed out next month, the day before the Oscars.

I just joined this group, because we have only just discovered RTA and
Sarah Polley.
"We" is my wife and me, who live in Holland.
RTA was never broadcasted there, for some reason a householdshop-chain
had seaon 1,region 2 in stock.
I am involved with "Avonlea" for almost five years now.
At least one prominent member here I know from other groups and
forums, and she knows me too: Hi Shelly ! :)
Shelly and me run a small Megan Follows group, to have a safe place
for pictures and information about another very gifted Canadian actress.
I realise there are many productions with Sarah I will never see,
because many will not be shown on any channel we can watch.
We have a trip to Canada coming up in Fall, to visit the Canadian
branch of my wife's family.
We still regret not having bought the full RTA-set the previous time,
but our budget was exceeded already.
This time we will buy the whole RTA-set.
Or maybe order it, if we cannot wait any longer.
Meanwhile, I will visit hee more often ,to learn more about Sarah.
With awards season officially upon us, some moviegoers have bemoaned
the absence of one name from all the acting nominees announced so far:
Gordon Pinsent, for his poignant turn in Sarah Polley's critically
acclaimed Away From Her.
Pinsent, however, is taking comfort in a message sent his way by
Daniel Day-Lewis, the man considered a shoo-in for Best Actor glory
this year for his own role in There Will Be Blood.
"I got a wonderful message passed on to me through Sarah Polley by
Daniel Day-Lewis, and he said: `It's one of the best performances I
have seen and I am totally in awe of him,'" Pinsent, 77, said Friday.

'Twas an awesome video, that.
(There's a same-named group dedicated to Sarah on Facebook, too.)
