Sarah Polley is speaking out in support of a new book from a Newfoundland
native.
Roots of Empathy: Changing The World Child By Child, written by Mary Gordon, is
a
classroom program that encompasses a new approach that fosters emotional
literacy in
children in order to build more respectful and caring relationships, to reduce
levels of
bullying and aggression, and to pass on a legacy of empathy to future
generations.
Sarah will be attending the Toronto book launch of Ms. Gordon's book, at Indigo
Books,
Manulife location. Sept. 27.
This is what Sarah said about the program.
"I had the great privilege of experiencing first hand Mary Gordon's method of
communicating with and engendering empathy and emotional literacy in children.
There is
nothing in the world I feel more grateful for. I believe it is the main reason
why I became
an artist and social activist."
The book is available from Thomas Allen Publishers for $29.95

In other Sarah news, Star TV showed a Star! Close Up program featuring Polley
the other
night. It included segments of interviews from Road to Avonlea right up to Dawn
of The
Dead. Not sure if this will be repeated, but keep an eye out for it, if you live
in Canada.
Also, Beowulf and Grendel will be showcased at the Atlantic Film Festival in
Halifax, Nova
Scotia taking place Sept. 15-24.
