Hello,
I just joined today. As a relatively new fan for Hiroyuki Sanada, I
thought to try this group. This grouped was linked by another
nonYahoo format group which I did not know how to interface with.
I was curious about Sanada's martial arts training. It's obvious that
he has great technique as depicted in The Last Samurai. Does he study
sword art? Does he carry his own line of sword or bokken?
Or perhaps does he study Karate? others?
kind regards,
Eric in frozen Alaska
What I've read elsewhere is not very much. I have read in the past that he has one older brother, who along with their mother is still living, but their father died when Hiro-san was quite young - 10 or 11, I think. I also remember reading that his ex-wife had custody of their children but I think they may be in their teens or even older now.
Anybody else able to fill in more detail?

Hi Members,
I'm one of Sanada fans out there. Just noticed that biographies of Hiroyuki do not include the number of his siblings or substantial detail about his parents. Also, how's his relationship with his two sons? Would you guys know?

Yup, you are absolutely right, Lyn. I meant 2 months...

I am into astrology and a while back found a site listing famous people
but no Sanada-san. *Gasp*
I submitted his info and it's just been approved and added.
You can read his personality profile and even put in your own birth
data to see how well you match up with him.
A word of caution though... because we don't have an accurate birth
time (does anyone know if the time is listed on Hong Kong birth
certificates?) they used noon. This, or using midnight, is standard.
Using noon gives him a Cancer Ascendant, but using midnight it changes
to Leo. Leo, being the sign of acting, makes more sense to me but we
can't pin it down without the actual time.
So, if your synergy report says he would not fall madly in love with
you, don't give up hope. <grin>

Wow! Thanks a lot! I have searched through Sanada's filmography's and
I thought that that might have been the movie. It's available online
for 37 US! That's expensive but it's worth it I guess, even though
there is no English subtitles! Thank you again!
I was recently browsing utube for Sanada videos and I stumbled across
a very steamy shot from a movie. I don't know what the movie was.
There was no English to it at all. In the film, poor Sanada is tied to
a poll and this other guy is getting his gollies off of him, if you
know what I mean. ( I don't want to offend anyone by coming right out
and saying what was happening.) The guy cuts him with a box cutter.
Does anyone have any idea what this movie is? If I need to go into
greater detail, I will but it's male on male action and I don't want
to gross anyone out. The title on the nine min long clip is in
Japanese and I have no idea what it says. Again, I'm just trying to
figure out what movie this is.
I've edited the group to allow members to upload files to the Photos section - you should be able to do it now.

I just wanted to say hiya! And tell y'all a few things about myself.
I'm a 30something female...slightly off kilter...artist and
craftsperson (whatever THAT means!) with a deep adoration and
admiration for Sanadasan...probably a little TOO deep, but what can ya
do.
Been a fan for many years, and have loved watching him mature and grow

I'm terribly chatty and open so feel free to contact me to say hi!

Hi,
I just saw The leyend f the eight samurai I bought in DVD...and it was cool. It
reminds me
in a way to "The neverending story", and that kind of films made with adorable
(and now
old fashioned) sci-fi effects. In fact I was too young to appreciate that in
that moment, but
now, I am really enjoying. I really love that kind of films.
In the dvd I have just bought, I could see also the trailers of some other
fantastic samurai
films, and maybe I will go for a walk again in Amazon. Even if it wouldn´t be
Sanada san
in them, of course it will be worth looking at them.
But if Sanada san is in the films, much better: my eyes are blinking everytime I
see him.
Oh, late teen feelings about Sanada san!!!
I would feel very strange if I know there is a group of people with a forum to
talk about
me...Poor Sanada :(

Well, I've finally just seen him in both 'Rush Hour 3' and 'Sunshine' which I picked up when they were released here on DVD. I thought he looked great in both, and I have to say it was so COOL to see him again in a couple of major Western films... not that I don't enjoy his other work, far from it, but English-language films are just so much easier to find here AND it seems to be the beginning of a trend of him getting more work internationally, which is fantastic.
I enjoyed 'Sunshine' well enough, although it kind of lost me at the end - not the way the story turned out, but there was a lot of quirky editing and lighting and effects that I suppose had some point but for me it just started to get annoying and made it even harder to figure out what exactly was going on, or, more precisely, exactly what the point was of all the visual quirkiness... in retrospect I'm wondering if it was supposed to be from the point of view of the 'extra' crewmember whose vision would've been screwed up due to, um, well, if you've seen it that would be obvious, if not, I won't say anything to ruin the ending even more than I just did.
'Rush Hour 3' I really, REALLY enjoyed, I thought he was great in it but I also liked the first two 'Rush Hour' films and I like Jackie Chan too so I expected it to be a lot of fun and it was. For those of you thinking of buying it who haven't already, I got the widescreen version with a bonus disk - I think it might be a 'special edition' or something and it has a lot of different features, and there are some snippets of interviews with Sanada-san in the 'making of' feature, also of course video of him on set while they were filming.
I'm thinking of getting a copy of 'The Promise' - finally - but I've noticed when looking online that the US DVD release has been cut by about 20 minutes, and I have no idea what was cut... does anyone know? I'll probably look for an import DVD with the Asian release version, which is uncut. I don't know why they'd need to cut it for the US release, since it's likely that only people who are fans of Asian cinema are going to buy it or rent it over here, and those folks are unlikely to be upset by an extra 20 minutes of run-time or some kind of content that was deemed unsuitable for US tastes (and given the kinds of things that DO get made and released over here, I can't imagine what would need to be cut in terms of content).

I like his look in these pieces too! However, two favorites of mine are not in films, but in tv dramas. They're called "Konna Koi no Hanashi" or "A Story of Love". He just looked so young and yummy.

I didn't hear "The Promise" in Chinese. I heard it in English and it sounded funny. Was that Hiro speaking in English? I've heard him speak in English and it didn't sound like that. He's actually pretty good at it and I love hearing him speak.

Yes, Sanada san did his own acting and speaking in "The Promise." Originally, I believe they'd considered dubbing his voice, with a native speaker, but he was able to learn the language sufficiently to be able to

hello, I read that Sanada san was the one doing the voice of General Guangming, his rol in The Promise. Could someone confirm this? I have the DVD and, though I know the dubbing was made after filming, his voice sounds strange, maybe because the Chinese sound is not so clear, and I get use to listen to him talking in Japanese...Any clue?
