Define a working lightsaber. Do you mean one that lights up and glows/beam
of light, or one that creates an energy blade? If you are expecting a blade
I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but that technology just doesn't exist yet.
(if you know this sorry, but there are a lot of people that don't.)

How are you lighting up the stone? If you are shineing a light on the back
you will need to remove the backing. It is most likely made of mylar, and
that is totally light proof. This is a good thing from the front as all the
light that hits it is reflected, but a bad thing if you want the light to be
from behind.

please need some help because this is my first time at this. I
understand in order to make this light saber to work I have to use a

me to use this stone and make the blade to work to I have to take off
the Silver backing?? or leave it on?? Please once again help this

THe problem you are seeing is that tripod which hosts the yellow box limits
your monthly bandwidth. You only get so many Mb per month. After that they
pretty much pull your website down till you buy more, or the month ends.
The owner of the yellow box got tired of this problem, and found a new host.
Try here:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/yellowbox/bigyellowbox/index.htm
I've not had a problem getting to any of it since his move.

http://www.parksabers.com/ <--- Have to write or call for their blades

When you go to Light Tech's site you will see that the hilt end of the
EL blade will fit snug into your handle and not move around. Nor get
broken if you run into Sith.

There are several sound boards you can get. Everything for Rad shack
to spending $50 on line.

Yet you can get a toy saber with sound for $10 on-line and gut it for
the sound board. I got mine at Wal*Mart and took it home, gutted it.

Next I went to Rad Shack, got a 3v motherboard battery and holder and
made a small package that fits in the end, and makes cool noises.

Dude!

What the heck are you talking about. Yu can buy the EL blade ($135)
and the sound board ($20-30) and install them in a number of homemade
hilts.

Luke's ANH Graflex copy would be the hardest, because the emitter. Big
yellow box has a whole pile of home made plans to choose from.

A fan can buy his, but a Padawon must make his :-)

I think it's up to the fan what they wanna' do with a saber or how to
make one.
If they can afford a custom machined one to use as a template to
make another, go for it, OR they can try to build their own.
Either method , an elegant prop that's truly uniqice to the person
weilding it comes into being.
I like bothways personally. :-) For thsoe of us who are tool
challenged.(meaning, no tools avaible.) a saber buiolt by someone who
knows how is pretty good. But for the guys who ahvethe tools and
knowlegde, and time, home built is great.

TOo bad an EL blade and sound FX can't be placed in a home amde
housing then its the best of BOTH worlds and the saber'd rock BIG
time. :-)

I see there are several camps when it comes to light sabers.

You can spend 100's of bucks and buy a commerically made.

You can go to Home Depot and make one out of dain pipe.

Heck you can even bid a lot bucks on E-Bay for a Graflex or Heiland
and make one like they did way back when.

The ones made buy the various companies (ICONS, Parker, etc) Are made
a heck of a lot more like EP I and II's, fancy and heavier than the
older hollow flash tube ones.

In EP IV-VI, they used all exsisting stuff that was laying around. It
looks like EP I & II they custom machined them.

Has anyone come across a machine shop that will spin the parts? I'm
betting that if some had one and took it in disasembled. The parts
could be repoped and sold as kits or seperate pieces.

What do you all think?

I made my custom lightsaber with no machining. All the metal work that had
to be done was to drill one hole for the button. Do not underestimate simple
sabers. They can look just as good.

Kewl. a neat way to get a kick butt awesome looking costume for a
reletively cheap price and it loosk sweet. Will you post pics
PLEASE? Best places to find costume parts, garage sales, thirft
stores and consignment shops. Sometimes even brothers or sisters
cloests. :-D

That's cool. Looks like you aren't the only one doing that.<G>
My jedi costume will be very close to that only I already own 96%
of the stuff already, so it cut down on my costs a lot.

My under tunic, I rebuilt one of my cotton gauze shirts froma
regular button down mode to a karate Gi stlye of garment w/ ties
inside and out to keep it on. I have a couple of snaps to the thing
stays closed in the front during Sabre battles.<G>

Over tunic: I have a cream colored silk Women's Haori coat which
comes to the same spot the Jedi over tunic does. (Mid thigh) It's not
a solid cream color but has beautiful, delicate embroidry on the
sends of the sleeves, bottom of the front and back of the coat. Silk
lined too. Can you belive I snagged that from a garage sale for $5.
I can make the Obi myself from raw silk ordered from Dharma trading
company. The tabbords will be made from the smae materialas the Obi
(raw Silk).
My black or tan pants i already have in the cloest. I like dockers
myself, pockets<G>

I have black riding boots from a previous costume. NP my Jedi belt is
black too<G> Might as well match.

My clothing part didn't cost me much. The fabric I'll by won't cost
me no more than 20 bucks.
I had to order the Jedi belt, and saber since I haven't the tools to
make either.

My boots for the previosu costume cost $75
Looks like we both made an amazing costume for very little.<G> Good
job.

Here is something you might want to think about.

I am currently having my Jedi robes made for me at
http://www.kyotokimono.com. The Jedi robes are a small variation of a
Japanese Kimono. So, I have asked them to make me a Kimono in the tan
colour. The only difference that I am making is that the length has
been shortened to lie between my knees and waist. Also, to make the
appearance of an under Kimono, They are sewing on a white collar and
sleave cufs to give the appearance of an undershirt. The Obi (belt) is
included for a $150 price tag. That is really a good buy for a custom
kimono. They may not be fully aware that they are making my jedi
robes. To them they are making a modified kimono. Then all you need is
a good pair of pants that you can get at any store. I am getting a
brown or rust colour pair at Walmart for $20. My Kimono will belt over
the pants. So, I will have pockets, but they do not show. Then a pair
of nice looking leather riding boots will fill out the costume. As far
as the cloak, I found one at my local costume shop for $100.

I don't know if $150 is considered "cheapest" for you. But unless you
can sew or know of a great seamstrist, I would unquestionablly
recommend a kimono be made for you.

Figure this:
Kimono $150
Cloak ~$100
Boots $100-$200
Pants $20-$60 (based on quality and purchase place)

I would count on spending about $500 and for it to look GOOD!!

My kimono is in process of being made. It's due to be completed around
the 20th July.

Hope that this helps. Just remember, Lucas made the Jedi's from his
love for the Japans and crossed them with the Knights of Old Europe.

Parks Sabers use a different set of blades from Lightech. They are also not
compatable. If you are looking for them hit larbel, but do it quick he is
going out of business due to being hired by Master Replicas. The graflex
and heiland style saber to be offered by MR will be created by Larbel.
