Does anyone has his email addy? I know he was using a Sit n Spin for a dome ring and I don't think he found a way to use a dome motor. I have it working and wanted to let him know. Calvin
Her SSpin is mounted as if a kid was going to ride it.
I noticed some people mount it upside down. (I hope yours is not)
Under the SSpin there is a area where the marbles and the spacers ride
and there's a lip from the top half of the SSpin that rides on each side of the
marble bearing.
There is 4 heavier ribs on the top half that have to be cut down and this
will give you a smooth area for the drive wheel to turn the dome.
Looking at the bottom you have 4 large holes and you can use 1 of the rear holes
to insert the dome wheel/motor combo.
I made a real simple version of Atomic Pickles dome motor holders and it all
works perfectly.
On Brenda's blog you can see it working and if your interested I can get some
pics of how it fits and works.

Another suggestion would be to build an inner sub-frame for the doors you want to open. The top and bottoms of these would be curved to match the curvature of the droid's frame, and the sides just straight pieces to connect the top and bottom. A thin sheet to seal the back would make the doors very rigid and strong, and the frame itself would make for nice attachment points for servos, etc., for opening and closing. Glue the door skins to this and it'll hold the curve of the body.

ok so when i was going ot make my r2 rather than r7 i was going to have
multiple colors and it was going to be weatherd. my dome was going to
be a cool black primer that i saw on a dome daren was laser cutting and
i loved the color. the logic displays were going to be red and then
there was going to be some white on the skins and then some peices were
gonna look aluminuim. it was going to be random whatever looks cool
colors for my droid with weathering. but now im making a r7 it feels
that its the type of droid that needs to be more formul like no
weathering and a paint scheme is needed i think its more like that in
my mind because the r7 were new and all and you never realy seeen them
damaged or without a paint scheme so it just feels like i need a paint
scheme and no weathering. on astromech.net there was a forum about
weathering droids and it was said that not weathering them makes them
look factory fress and not real. but in my mind im thinking that the r7
droids are factory fresh droids that would look horrible with
weathering yet i havent seen one thats weathered
any takes? opinions? does it look better without weathering?
i would have to get a dome but i would also be interested in it if we
can get nine people other than me then let me know and ill try to ge

me know and its only a possibility. did you say daren would be doing

With the R7 skins offered by A&A it is not significantly harder. The only major difference is the R7 has 4 front logics instead of 2. Andy was looking at making an aluminum R7 dome. I don't know if that ever happened or not.
I got the files to Darren Murren who had his dome guy look at them. We needed at least 10 domes to do a run. I coundt promise that many so the idea fizzled.
But if we can get enough people we can get R7 Domes for the same price as the R2 ones.
With the R7 skins offered by A&A it is not significantly harder. The only major difference is the R7 has 4 front logics instead of 2. Andy was looking at making an aluminum R7 dome. I don't know if that ever happened or not.

Andy offers a flat pack one with his R7 skin extras. I designed a stylized one and 2 aluminum manufactured, and kieth (resinparts.com) made a mold off one of those. I can still have them machined if you "must" have aluminum, but they were over 250 when I had 2 made a few years back. So I would not be surprised to find them over 300 now with the increase in aluminum.
Or if you are handy in a machine shop, I still have the cad files.
