Next stop is Los Angeles on May 14th& 16th for the full-day, eight-hour filmmaking seminar.  This one is definitely worth the trip to LA and I hope you'll be able to join me.

This is serious information about filmmaking, taught
by award-winning filmmaker, Norman C. Berns. The day is packed with the reasons why THEIR films get produced instead of yours.  There's no show here; this seminar is all about BUSINESS.

How to break down a script.  How to schedule.  Picking budgeting programs and putting the best to work.  Lot of tips on getting-your-hands-dirty budgeting.  How to write a business plan.  Learning tocreate a cash flow analysis.  Setting up fund-raising so it's LEGAL.  Even the details on how to pitch successfully.  Complete with the amazing five-minute pitch clock.

Students get over 50MB of support materials, including a complete PDF of the session.  Everyone gets free software, free DVDs and entered to win over $1000 worth of software from major entertainment companies.  Your cost for all this...?  The whole eight-hour session is only $139.  We'll even buy your morning coffee and a box lunch.

Find more information (and all the signup details) at http://514.eventbrite.com/ and http://516.eventbrite.com/

Can't make to LA?
Please pass this on to your West Coast film friends.  This session is really important.

Can't afford it?  Write to me directly about student pricing, working scholarships and sales incentives.  This is a seminar every filmmaker needs to attend and I'll work with you to make it possible.

If you can get to New York, you'll definitely want to join this one
amazing, information-packed day on March 12th. Even if you can't make
it, do your friends a solid and tell them about this session taught by
DGA director, Norman C. Berns.

The entire day is packed with vital information about the business end
of show business. Scheduling scripts, budgeting projects, building a
cash flow analysis, creating business plans, developing a legal PPM
and even how to pitch successfully.

Serious about making a living making films...? These are the details
you have to know.

***** 1. Eight full hours, exploring everything from a script
breakdown to pitching the project.

***** 2. The entire session is live and completely open to questions
and answers.

***** 3. Free morning coffee and a box lunch, too.

***** 4. Everyone who signs up will get great software. Free. No
demos - this is the real stuff.

***** 5. We'll raffle off a thousand dollars worth of major
production software. The more people, the more free software we can
raffle.

The entire day costs 99 bucks, all in. (Including a full PDF of the
class plus extra support materials.) I plan to repeat this class, but
the price will never be as low as this promotion; the giveaways will
never be as rich.

Go to http://www.eventbrite.com/event/290942216 for more information.
And if you can, but sure to sign up for March 12th in New York.

Best,
Norman

In Los Angeles,  Need recommendations for moody Nightclub setting for low-budget webseries.  Not too modern. One day
shoot during daytime.  Will receive thanks in Credits and some reasonable compensation.

Moody in this case is a Club that might have a lot of drapes and velvet (red comes to mind, but not essential). Perhaps a little Gothic looking. A place with some style. It should not be just a place to dance. There would be  sittings areas, couches, etc. I'll try to get you a link to a photo that might represent what we are looking for

I would appreciate any help and advise you can give me.

EuroAsia Shorts: Short Films from Europe, Asia and the United States
showcases short films from various countries, comparing them according
to different themes.

The festival committee invites filmmakers from China, India, Japan,
Korea, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and the United States to submit
short films for consideration in our Washington, DC-based Showcase
June 1 - 6, 2009.

The film, director or writers from one of the organizing nations
- Europe: France, Italy, Spain, Germany
- Asia: Japan, Korea, India, China
- North America: USA

The film must fit one of the themes
- Generations/Getting Older
- Cities/Urban Environment
- Humor
- Fears and Phobias
- Beauty

The films serve as a springboard to discussion of the themes and how
they are addressed in different countries, particularly through the
medium of film. Each evening will focus on comparing Asian, European
and US cultures in regards to particular themes. The nightly hour and
a half screening at an Embassy or Cultural Center will be followed by
discussion of the films and the topics with several panelists.

For more information, and the submission form, visit
http://euroasiashorts.com

Alliance Française, the Embassy of Korea's KORUS House, the Japan
Information and Culture Center, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the
Chinatown Community Cultural Center, the Embassy of Spain, the

Submissions are now open for the 2009 edition of the famed DC Shorts
Film Festival! Visit the updated web site at http://dcshorts.com

DC Shorts turns the spotlight on truly independent short films,
created by new and established filmmakers in an era when the art of
filmmaking is opening to all. We select films from every genre for our
competition screenings -- with a special focus on films created by
metropolitan Washington, DC-based directors and writers. After each
screening, filmmakers have the opportunity to speak to the audience as
part of a moderated panel.

In 2008, DC Shorts reviewed more than 750 entries from around the
globe. We selected 103 short films for screenings at 8 showcases
during the competition weekend of September 11-14, 2008, with each
show featuring an average of ten short films. Since a major focus of
the event is the inclusion of filmmakers, many of the films were
represented by the more than 108 filmmakers in attendance from 8
countries. More than 2,600 people attended the screenings.

DC Shorts gives ALL ENTIRES feedback from the judges -- a point which
impressed MovieMaker Magazine to name us as "one of 20 festivals worth
an entry fee," AND as "one of the leading film festivals" in the country.

THE EARLYBIRD DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 15, 2009. Submission fees go up
after that date -- so enter now and save!

For those looking for the Screenwriting Competition -- please be
patient as we are reworking this event to include more finalists, more
seminars, and dedicate an entire weekend to scripts -- alone!

Please visit http://dcshorts.com for more information.
