This is not an unexpected development.
Goldman played along with us like his for 20 years before. With every
new printing of the novel he added a new paragraph "updating" the
reunion scene text that each publisher would send to readers who
requested it.
Now it looks like Goldman is going to go through another series of
"updates" as Ballentine (or whomever is actually publishing the novel
these days) prints new editions. If you had sent away for the reunion
scene, 20 years ago, you would have received a story about Kermit Shog
and the legal happenings at Harcourt, Brace (the original publisher of
TPB.) As the book continued to change publishing houses, Goldman began
adding Post Scripts that give excuses for why the scene is not yet
available.
